As I watch the news and listen to all the debates about being civil to one
another..I cannot help but be saddened that it takes a tragedy to open people
eyes about “agreeable disagreement”. The finger pointing on who is to blame
for this young gentleman to have finally snapped and come out with guns
blazing has got to stop. This is not about politics this is about a troubled
young man who fell through the cracks and the lack of good mental health care
in the state of Arizona. People who are violently disturbed can justify there
actions in ways are incomprehensible to people who are not afflicted with
mental illness. No one knows why he did what he did..people are making
assumptions because they listen to the media, that continues to interview
people who knew him in highschool or college for their 15 minutes of fame.
Shame on you!. Ans shame on the media for turning this into another circus.
Anddont let tragedy strike to realize you should be alittle kinder in your
words.
How can you say lack of good mental health care in this state? First you
cannot force someone to undergo mental treatment. They have to volunteer
unless he/she does something like this crazy guy did. I do agree that the
finger pointing at conservatives especially from that …sheriff of Pima
county should stop. This crazy person was just plain crazy.
I don’t disagree with what you are saying, but I live in the real world.
People are people.
I hope those of you who jumped to the wrong conclusion & immediately pointed
fingers at radio talk show hosts & right wing politics have the sense to
apologize to that forum. The shooting was motivated by this hateful person’s
intolerance of anyone who had a thought contrary to what he supported. In
fact his ideals are spread across the board, a little left, a little right
and a whole lot of ugly! Sheriff Dupnik ought to join you in that apology.
His ranting & raving did nothing but severely harm the state of Arizona.
Perhaps the sheriff took lessons from Mr. Obama in how to embarrass &
belittle your country.
I read this kid’s web sites before they were taken down. His politics weren’t
clear in the slightest. His ramblings were incoherent, his postings were
against some imagined slights and he was, in short, absolutely nuts. How his
parents didn’t see it is beyond me. It’s obvious from his postings and
YouTube videos his mind was racing, all the time. In addition, I saw a
posting he made to a liberal bulletin board that he was angry at Giffords
because she voted against Nancy Pelosi as House Speaker. If it WAS
politically motivated, it was because Giffords went AGAINST the liberal
agenda, not because she was part of it. However, this WASN’T politically
motivated. He was just bat guano crazy.
Although I disagree with Gabrielle Giffords on nearly every political issue,
this is America. We vote; we don’t shoot people. The young man arrested for
these horrific crimes has ruined many lives today, including his own. I send
my thoughts and prayers for her recovery to her, her family, friends, and
staff.
Incadove. It is truly a sad day. I don’t support her political views but
things have been out of hand with the threats and also the attacks on
Grijalva’s office as well.
This morning my wife went to the Bank of America in the Safeway Shopping
Center to cash a check. She returned home and told me that the bank was
locked and she had to wait for the Bank manager to unlock the door so she
could enter. She was then told about a shooting that went on in front of the
Safeway Store in that complex and the bank was cautious about leaving people
enter the bank. My wife just barely got out of the shopping center when all
exits were blocked so people could not get in or out. When she got home we
turned on the news and discovered that Gabby Giffords had been shot. What a
close call.
I am not a huge supporter of Ms. Giffords. But I respect the way she comes
regularly back to her area to meet with constituents in as open a way as
possible. This is what all our representatives should be doing. It is time
for the rhetoric of hate to stop. It needs to be off the airwaves and out of
the blogs and comments sections. I clearly have no idea why this young man
felt he had to shoot Ms. Giffords and others, but those who speak hate only
feed this kind of behavior, whether they mean to or not. Peace.
Auntie Em - What your saying is wrong. The 1st Amendment guarantees free
speech. It is wrong to say other people are the cause of this. The young man
was free to listen to who he wanted to and make up his own mind as to what to
believe. It is obvious that this young man is mentally unstable. Asking for
civilly is alright but saying that we need to stop others from speaking is
wrong! Speedy recovery to those who are hurt and my condolences to the
families of those who have died. It’s a said day.
