Young coaches make huge breakthroughs
When he took over the Buena football program in April, head coach Ryan Scherling wanted to turn Colt football into a college-type atmosphere. And in the moments after shaking hands with the vanquished Santa Rita Eagles, Scherling directed his team to pay tribute to the band by forming an old-timey varsity sweater mosh pit on the track as the band played the school fight song.
“That band played their ass off tonight, too,” Scherling said. “So our support for them is huge.”
This is not something traditionally done at Buena, where, for years, there’s been a mostly silent animosity between the two programs.
