Bisbee mayor hosts border conference
BISBEE — The fourth Arizona-Sonora Border Mayors Coalition meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday at Turquoise Valley Golf & Restaurant, and will be hosted by Bisbee Mayor Adriana Badal.
According to a press release by Badal, Sen. Jeff Flake, (R) and Congressman Ron Barber, (D) have been invited to attend the meeting and discuss the status of comprehensive immigration reform, and other issues of concern to the group.
“The goal of the group is to increase economic opportunities in the region by promoting tourism, border safety, border infrastructure and employment,” she stated.
Last week Badal and Cananea Mayor, Francisco Javier Tarazon Curlango made a presentation at the Arizona-Mexico Commission conference in Scottsdale about Cananea’s Tourism Cluster that includes Cananea and Naco, Sonora, and Bisbee and Tombstone.
The Arizona-Sonora Border Mayors Coalition includes Bisbee, Douglas, Sierra Vista, Tombstone, Benson, Willcox and Huachuca City, and at least eight border cities and towns in northern Sonora.
The co-chairs of the coalition are Badal, Douglas Mayor Danny Ortega, Jr. and Mexican Consul in Douglas, Oscar de la Torre Amezcua.
Friday’s meeting is open to the public. The fee to attend is $20 and covers the cost of breakfast and lunch. For more information contact Mayor Badal at (520) 234-1698.
