Hereford

Sierra Vista Regional Health Center’s Power of Pink exhibit has moved to the Hereford Post Office and will be there until Jan. 30, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Power of Pink is a traveling breast cancer photo exhibit showcasing 12 breast cancer survivors from Cochise County with their stories. The importance of early detection is the main message. Bisbee



Rebecca Orozco will present a program to the Bisbee Corral of Westerners International featuring her experiences traveling in southern Africa. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday in the Senior Center. Orozco is the director of Cochise College’s Center for Lifelong Learning. Refreshments will be served. The Mule Mountain Democratic Club will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Senior Center on Collins Road. The 2008 election season will be discussed, along with plans for future programs and events sponsored by the club. Call Christine Rhodes at 432-5836.

Sierra Vista

The annual Winter Visitors Program resumes today at 9 a.m. with Sierra Vista City Manager Chuck Potucek as the first speaker. The program is hosted by Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 2145 S. Coronado Drive. Doors open at 8 a.m. Coffee and donuts are served at 8:30, and the one-hour program starts at 9. Call Jim Behnke at 803-6810. The Jan. 14 program will be “The Congo,” presented by Rebecca Orozco of Cochise College. Jan. 21 will be a program from Fort Huachuca. Programs will continue through March 18.

“Blues or Blahs: Is it depression or just stuff going on with concerns regarding aging?” is a seminar that will be presented by Mary Davis, a psychologist at Manzanita Counseling Services. The educational program will be offered by the Nursing Home Ministry and Health Ministry at Faith Prebyterian Church, 2053 Choctaw Drive, on Jan. 15, from 11:30 to 1 p.m. Bring a brown bag lunch. On Saturday, the Friends of the San Pedro River will launch their 2009 trail ride schedule with a ride from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista, heading north toward Murray Springs. The trail ride will begin at 11 a.m. and finish around 2 p.m. This ride is for those who own their own horses. Bring a sack lunch to enjoy along the river. Call Nancy at 456-1362.

Because of the New Year’s Day holiday, two local clubs are changing their meeting dates. The Fort Huachuca Retiree Council will meet on Friday, at 10 a.m., in the DHR Conference Room (building 41421) on Fort Huachuca. Coffee Call is at 9:30 a.m. All military retirees are invited to attend the monthly open meetings. For information, call 417-1645 or email brede@theriver.com. The National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet Thursday, 11 a.m., at the Windemere Hotel and Conference Center. The Cochise Area Network of Therapeutic Equestrian Resources, or CANTER, is seeking new volunteers to be horse handlers and side walkers to help handicapped riders in morning programs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Prior experience working with horses or the handicapped is not required. If you cannot work with horses, there are other ways to help. The 16th annual High Desert Gardening and Landscaping Conference will be held Feb. 12 and 13 at the Windemere Hotel and Conference Center. Visit cals.arizona.edu/cochise/mg and go to the events page.

The Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park is open for bird walks each Sunday morning. The walks take about two hours and are led by docents from Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory, Huachuca Audubon Society and the Friends of the San Pedro River. Walks depart from the viewing platform at 8 a.m. The park entrance is located on Highway 90 between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. All tours are free, although donations are invited. The walks are limited to 20 people and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Special walks for large groups and walks on days other than Sunday can be arranged. Contact Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory at 432-1388.
