Sierra Vista Regional Health Center’s Power of Pink exhibit is on display through Monday at the Tombstone Post Office, located at 100 N. Haskell St. The public can view the exhibit Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Power of Pink is a traveling Breast Cancer photo exhibit showcasing 12 breast cancer survivors from Cochise County with their stories. The purpose is to raise awareness about the significance of regular health screenings and educate women about the importance of early detection. Call 417-3158.

The annual Muheim Heritage House Holiday Party is slated for Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Attendees will the opportunity to tour Bisbee’s premier Victorian home. It was built by pioneer merchant Joe Muheim and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is located on Youngblood Hill on the east side of Brewery Gulch in Old Bisbee. Rebecca Orozco will present a program to the Bisbee Corral of Westerners International featuring her experiences traveling in southern Africa. The Confederate Secret Service Camp 1710 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans will hold a business meeting and informal supper at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Country House Restaurant, 4373 S. Highway 92. Meals may be ordered from the restaurant’s regular menu. The meeting’s program will be presented by Joe Larson, director of the Southern Arizona Veterans Cemetery, who will discuss the cemetery’s programs, particularly the reinterment of the remains of 19th century soldiers recently discovered in Tucson. On Jan. 10, the Friends of the San Pedro River will launch their 2009 trail ride schedule with a ride from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista, heading north toward Murray Springs. Because of the New Year’s Day holiday, two local clubs are changing their meeting dates. The Volunteer Interfaith Caregiver Program, a nonprofit organization providing services to the elderly, disabled and homebound residents of Sierra Vista and nearby rural communities, is recruiting volunteers who are willing to give a few hours of their week to reach out and help their neighbors. The Cochise Area Network of Therapeutic Equestrian Resources, or CANTER, is seeking new volunteers to be horse handlers and side walkers to help handicapped riders in morning programs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Prior experience working with horses or the handicapped is not required. If you cannot work with horses, there are other ways to help. The Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park is open for bird walks each Sunday morning. The walks take about two hours and are led by docents from Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory, Huachuca Audubon Society and the Friends of the San Pedro River. Walks depart from the viewing platform at 8 a.m. The park entrance is located on Highway 90 between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. All tours are free, although donations are invited. The walks are limited to 20 people and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Special walks for large groups and walks on days other than Sunday can be arranged. Contact Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory at 432-1388.
The tours, of the Buffalo Soldier historic sites, are held the third Saturday of each month and participants are invited to meet at the city of Sierra Vista’s Visitor Center, located in the Oscar Yrun Community Center at 3020 E. Tacoma St., and board a bus for the tour. After the two-hour tour, plus additional time at the Fort Huachuca Museum, the bus returns participants to the Visitor Center. The next tour will be held on December 20. The tour fee will be $12 with water and snacks provided. The Visitor Center’s representative will collect the fee by cash or check only. The bus will depart for Fort Huachuca at 11:30 a.m. and participants should arrive at the Visitor Center by 11:15 a.m. to have time to look at the maps and brochures of other Sierra Vista and local area attractions, tour fee collection, and verification of identification. Join docents from the Friends of the San Pedro River on an interpretive walk along the river Saturday. The walk departs from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista at 9 a.m. There is no charge for the walks, however donations are accepted to support the docent programs. The Fairbank Schoolhouse Museum, operated by Friends of the San Pedro River, is looking for volunteers. Volunteers work 3 1/2 hour shifts as a Greeter/Information guide/Cashier. All training is supplied and tasks are straight forward and user friendly. Work area includes computer, refrigerator, microwave, telephone and air-conditioning. All volunteers receive a 15 percent discount on store merchandise. If you are new to the area, it’s a great way to meet people. AARP Tax-Aide is looking for donations of old computer equipment. The organization needs three computers that run Windows XP, keyboards and ice with USB connections, preferably, though the group will accept those with PS2 connections. Any wired network equipment, such as switches or Ethernet cables, also is appreciated.
AARP Tax-Aide is seeking volunteers for the 2009 tax season. No previous tax preparation experience necessary, one week of training will be conducted in late January. Each person is required to work one day a week — about five hours — from the first of February through April 15 at the Oscar Yrun Community Center.
