Why would Obama pick Napolitano as head of Homeland Security? That is in charge of the entire nation’s security. The woman can’t even get a handle on 300 miles of border and we’re going to put her in charge of the nation’s security? What are they thinking? Is this what we have to look forward to?

To the person who complained that Transportation Express (a Fort Huachuca contract) was unable to provide airport service for them, I suggest going to the Yellow Pages and checking for other providers under “airport transportation” or “shuttle services.” Providing at least 24 hours notice can be helpful.

I’m calling about a problem on Seventh Street where people are still not stopping for school buses letting off students. Two school buses pulled up in front of Falcon Court Apartments in the last half-hour dropping off students. Cars continued to go by on Seventh Street. The bus drivers were honking at them. Some people stopped but others just went by. This is unsafe for the children. Drivers need to be reminded that when a bus is stopped with its lights on cars are supposed to stop in both directions.

This morning’s newspaper offered a sale flier for a local furniture store. The ad said that on Saturday, Nov. 22, they would hold a “door buster” sale from 9 a.m. to noon. Great! I high tailed it over there with great expectations, only to find the store was still closed at 9:15. A guy was sweeping up by the door and cracked it open long enough to tell me that they don’t open until 10 a.m. He acted like he didn’t know anything about the big sale. OK, I will go ahead and purchase my new living room furniture from a store in Phoenix and oh, by the way, will stop and fill up my gas tank in Tucson on the way. So much for trying to give my business to local merchants.

It could be the liberals are on to something. Barack Obama appears to be very smart. He will appoint Janet Napolitano in charge of Homeland Security, the border will stay wide open, and he’ll push through an amnesty bill and presto, 20 million new Democratic voters. Now that’s good thinking.

It’s a sad day that I have to pick up the Arizona Daily Star to read about a military working dog by the name of Brit whose ashes will be spread behind the kennel on Fort Huachuca. Brit was an 11-year-old German Shepherd who was a hero and served in Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s a shame we have to read a Tucson paper about a working dog from Fort Huachuca.

Editor’s note: The Herald/Review has published a notice saying that Brit will have a service on Fort Huachuca on Wednesday, which the Herald/Review has long planned to cover and use to tell Brit’s story.

I’m reading a comment in OYM about tail-gaiting that suggests people ride bicycles. I ride a bicycle and that’s not going to solve the problem. All people do in this town is complain. Everyday I’m reading these long complaints about trivial things. When you’re calling into this column you’re sitting in your home with a roof over your head, probably a nice meal in your stomach, a job you go to, a car to drive, and your health. Why don’t people appreciate what all of us, even the poorest of the poor, have in this town, in this country, and quit complaining.

Change and unity, change and unity. That’s what we heard, that’s what everybody was so enchanted with as they listened to Obama’s slick speeches. You were duped though. You should have known it when he picked an old Washington insider and political dinosaur like Joe Biden as his vice president. This coupled with the fact that he is packing his cabinet with old Clinton cronies proves he isn’t interested in change or unity. Right now Obama is planning to go campaign in the runoff race against Saxby Chambliss so he can have a filibuster proof Democratic senate. A man who truly plans to reach across the aisle wouldn’t need to be obsessing about having a filibuster proof Democratic Senate. Change? Nope, same old leftist, extremist liberal policies. Reach across the aisle? Please. That’s funny. You all have been duped by the slick talk and the lies of a partisan politician.

I read the Nov. 23 AP article, “Obama plan aims for 2.5M new jobs,” with a bit of skepticism. His grandiose plan “would provide 2.5 million jobs by rebuilding roads and bridges and modernizing schools while developing alternative energy sources and more efficient cars.” Obama never mentioned a price tag and who will pay the bill. That will come later. It isn’t enough that taxpayers have $1.6 trillion in various government bailouts already hanging over their heads. Now Obama and Democrats will embark on another spending spree. Taxpayers should be ready to open their wallets wide if there is anything still left in them. Obama sarcastically asked for the support of Republicans. Democrats have total control of the federal government and can ramrod legislature through Congress at will. Republicans are powerless. Beware. Obama’s plan is ripe for pork barrel spending (those juicy earmarks), the dream of every Democrat.

The Associated Press continues on its “tear-jerk” mission to ease the presidential path of their man, Barack Obama, with “Detroit’s despair rises with carmakers crisis” (Nov. 23). My sympathies are with the people who are hurting in Detroit. But it isn’t the task of the federal government to bail out every American in distress. That’s why we taxpayers provide billions of dollars for the many social services available to every needy citizen. The big three American automakers can apply for bankruptcy and still survive, as many other businesses have done. The government cannot bail out every big business, claiming to be going under, especially those that brought it on themselves. The Associated Press should shed some tears for us taxpayers. We’re already shouldering multi-billions of dollars for numerous government bailouts our illustrious lawmakers in Washington have saddled us with. Enough is enough. This madness must cease.

Of all the people who have walked the face of this Earth who were not in any way conservative politically, religiously, culturally, Jesus is the one. The very human beings who should have recognized him didn’t have a clue. They still don’t. They say they do. They swear they do, but they don’t know him, wouldn’t recognize him if he slapped them in the face. Status quo is a big thing for conservatives. Things are hunky dory, so let’s not change a thing. Jesus set out to change everything. He turned the whole world upside down. The only solution the conservatives came up with was murder. Do you really think Jesus would consider a lying scoundrel like GWB one of his close confidants and a gracious example to emulate? Now the lamest of lame ducks plans to issue a blanket pardon for everyone in his administration. Unbelievable. Criminal.

I was reading about the city needing to make budget cuts in different city departments. I’m just hoping they don’t make a cut with the Christmas parade with pets, etc. That’s a fun thing for the families and pets. Also, I hope they don’t discontinue the Sierra Vista Pet Idol contest. That’s also fun for families. We need those things to inspire the community and to have a little fun.

A car at Safeway almost hit me because people are double parking in front of the store because they are too lazy to find a parking space. The people that run the store better do something about it and ask the drivers to move their vehicles before the Christmas season and before someone gets in an accident or run over.

Nov. 24

The people who are crying about our law enforcement and speeders are the one’s driving in the passing lane talking on their cell phones doing 45 mph and their arms are so short they can’t reach the turn signals.

I have a concern why doesn’t Cochise County have a 24-hour emergency animal hospital. With all the animals in Cochise County, you would think they would. When speaking to a veterinarian about it, I was told there has to be at least seven animal clinics before they can even think about having an animal hospital, and I believe they said we only have four or five. It is shameful that when an animal is seriously injured during the night, you call your vet and you get an answering machine explaining everything and finally you get a number to call the vet that is on call, then you have to wake up the vet and meet them at their clinic, in the meantime the animal is suffering or even worst is losing blood. You finally meet the vet and they said there is nothing they can do except stabilize the animal and you have to go to Tucson.

Obama’s winning the presidency is not historic because he is black. After all, Bush had two black secretaries of state, we’ve had two black Supreme Court justices, etc. It is historic because he is the first president who is a Marxist and believes in a philosophy of socialism, which is redistribution of the wealth. We are a generous nation and give to needy causes, but we get to make those decisions, not some bureaucrat government worker. At least we will not have to hear, “It’s Bush’s fault,” for everything to weather change to the Democrats’ Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae financial mess that perpetrated most of our present day financial woes and our IRAs losing their value.

Nice article on the Buena girl’s soccer team in the Nov. 24 paper, but no mention of the two freshman girls that made the Varsity team: Lidia and Jordyn. Think those girls deserve to be mentioned, too.

How ironic that the Cal Thomas most-telling piece about education is in the same edition with the On Your Mind caller/writer who cited David Letterman as a news source regarding Bush’s verbal blunders. Who really is the “knuckleheaded moron?” It’s truly frightening that some folks have forgotten (or never learned) that late night TV (Letterman, et al) are entertainers. Pray for our country.

I certainly hope the industry presents its plan to produce autos that will have an international appeal as well as national since we as a nation will not do well just selling to each other.

Why don’t you tell the truth? Is that so difficult? Why don’t you tell how the blacks ran some of that “Jesus-confusion” on an old boy to hustle him out of “ownership” of a piece of the planet? Why don’t you tell how these Americans masquerade as “good Christians” along the border to smuggle alkaloids? Why don’t you tell how everyone had no problem with letting him slip into substance abuse for their many agenda? Why don’t you tell how blacks, whites and Hispanics have no problem with running speed (amphetamines) traps on whoever the mob is currently focused on so that they can paint pictures of ‘social incongruency’ on the person they have spiked? Why don’t you tell how these mobs coo-coo to children to get them to seek altered states so these mobs have a handy-dandy excuse as to why the subject is inebriated?

Ever wonder why our prisons are so over-crowded? How about career criminals? In prison ideas are exchanged, techniques are learned and improved upon. We constantly have to build new and bigger prisons. Meanwhile the prisoners are enjoying life: three meals a day, exercise equipment, TV. They improve their strength to resist arrest, attacks, etc. Seems our punishment for crimes just isn’t adequate. We just have too many bleeding hearts that are too reluctant to impose harsh punishment and are afraid to lean on the criminals’ rights. Ho Hum.

I see the little darlings of the community are at it again. They broke into the Skate Park before it was finished and now they broke into the store. If they can’t police themselves and if the parents continue not to care what they do, I predict this, too, will close and the ranting and raving about nothing to do will commence once more. Make the parents pay for it, to continue operations, and make the repairs or charge the kids for using it.

I want to complain about the deteriorating services at the Sierra Vista Public Library. I don’t understand why it takes this library so long to get new books and best sellers. Every other smaller library in the county gets them weeks and even months before. When Sierra Vista Public Library took over services for the Fort Huachuca library, they received a large chuck of money. So, why haven’t they used it to improve services? No one at the library seems to be able to answer these questions.

Editor’s note: We suggest that you talk with the library director, David Gunckel, about your concerns. He can be reached by phone at 458-4225 or by e-mail at dgunckel@ci.sierra-vista.az.us.

Today’s Herald says Obama has already chosen 41 people from the Clinton administration and he isn’t even president yet. How many more? Is this just a repeat of the Clinton administration only with Obama in charge instead of Hillary? Where is the change?

Here’s my advice to the person who was offended by older balding men with ponytails: You judge your fashion show and I’ll judge mine.

It has been reported that an American judge has ordered the release of the Chinese Muslims from Gitmo and their probable entry to these United States. So be it, provided our Justice Department holds that judge accountable for any and all crimes these detainees commit upon citizens of our country anywhere in the world.

To the person who is always suggesting we tax the wealthy and spread the wealth around. Are you talking about just taxing the Republican fat cats or do you mean all of the wealthy, including Democrats like the Kennedy family, John Kerry of Heinz pickle fortune or billionaire George Soros of MoveOn.org, billionaire Bill Gates of Microsoft, billionaire Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway, to name a few? I’m sure these men can afford Harvard lawyers to advise them in putting their money in good tax shelters, so only the poor millionaires will have to pay the taxes.

To the guy who hates Rush Limbaugh (Nov. 11), a wise man will listen to and evaluate a spectrum of viewpoints. The words and tone of your piece do not inform or encourage thoughtful discourse. You seem to be an angry person for real or imagined reasons, and may be in poor health. With your outlook, you should apply for a job as a block captain for Obama’s brown-shirt army of neighborhood spies and tattle-tales. Keep those articles coming, as they will ensure a turn-around in future elections. Several of your neighbors attend church. Others listen to Rush. They must be reported and dealt with, as they post a serious threat to the socialist state. They must be denied jobs, and if they still fail to fall in line, be sent to re-education camps.

How much has the Bisbee 1000 “Save Our Stairs” contributed to the city of Bisbee? Nothing to the city of Bisbee. This year was such a huge success of more than 1,200 stair climbers. In fact, the Bisbee 1000 broke its record for this event. But it’s time to repair deteriorating stairs on the course and of homeowners who use the course stairs to and from home. The initial purpose of the organizers was to “Save the Stairs,” and somehow this goal seems to have been forgotten. Please make the dream originally started with a contribution to really save the stairs. I wish you continued success in the Bisbee 1000.

It seems all the calls for “drill now, save later” will be for naught. Now that he has been elected, Obama seems to be environmentally reconsidering this very serious matter. He seems to be rethinking off-shore drilling. The Arabs have noticed this and are reducing production. Soon gas prices and its availability will return. This is not the only change he will come up with. Is it wishy-washy or indecisive? We just had eight years of that. Let’s hope for the better.

Maybe somebody can tell me why black nationalists are almost always referred to as leaders or separatists like in the Miracle Valley shootout and white nationalists are referred to as white supremacists in the mainline media.

The gay lifestyle is sin and is especially destructive (see Romans 1:26-28, Galatians 5:19-21). British broadcast journalist Simon Fanschawe, who is a homosexual, produced a documentary for the BBC called “The trouble with Gay Men.” His film includes statistics showing the average life span of the male homosexual is 40 years, with only 2 percent living to age 65. The reason? Promiscuity, given enough time, approaches 100 percent in males and this causes the spread of AIDS and other diseases. What is the answer? God offers forgiveness, redemption and eternal life to the homosexual just like he does to all the rest of us sinners. See John 3:16, Romans 3:23, 5:8, 6:23, 10:9-10. No one is born homosexual (Mark 10:6). Sin is breaking God’s laws, which he gave us in the Bible to protect us. When we accept Jesus in our hearts, the Holy Spirit cleanses us and empowers us to overcome sin.

This is for the couple who drives the old beat up gray car and delivers the newspaper in Whetstone. You know who this is and this is my message to you: You will stop damaging my vehicle in any way whatsoever. You will not spit on it, you will not key it and you will not leave any notes on it whatsoever. Next time you do so, I will hold the newspaper responsible.

I have one question for all those people lined up to get a free Thanksgiving dinner. If you can’t afford to feed your family, what are you doing with a cell phone? That’s money. For what you are spending on a cell phone you could put food on the table. Your priorities are really screwed up.

Once again because I’m fairly old I fell and once again someone I didn’t even know came forward to help my husband get me up. I didn’t get the young man’s name. I only know he was wearing an Idaho alumni sweat shirt. Thank you so much.

I’m the one with the first-grader in Palominas School, and it wasn’t a trash bag, it was a broken wood beam from the ceiling, and that’s why. It wasn’t a trash bag.

Finally one for the good guys. The office manager at Sun Drywall goes to prison. Now maybe the rest of the illegals in this county will go the heck home and force employers to pay wages to support a legal worker.

Charitable spirit shows? Yeah, there’s a lot of shows in Sierra Vista and the cops are honest, and the price is “right,” and the kids are all above average, and the rainbow is always somewhere else.

Our special needs granddaughter is a 16-year-old sophomore at Berean Academy (a charter school) in Sierra Vista. Her goal in life is to pursue a culinary career. Last month she decided to take her college placement tests, which the courses she selects are dual credit for high school graduation. This week she took them at Cochise College and is now an enrolled college student taking her first class in January. She has been attending Berean Academy since the sixth grade. The point being, because of the educational teachings, nurturing environment and dedicated staff, she with her many set backs since birth is on her way to becoming a model citizen in society. From our perspective, this charter school is the way to go. Thanks, Berean.

If nothing else indicates the state this country and city is in, just look at the employment classifieds in the SV Herald. When we moved here in 2002, there would be no less that 50 to 60 jobs listed. Today, there were 17. Very sad state of affairs, and it’s not getting better. Yes, I realize there are many retirees that live in this area who don’t find this any big deal, but what about those people who are moving here from big cities for a more peaceful and inexpensive life but still need to find work? This is a very unfortunate situation, and Sierra Vista is just the tip of the iceberg. Don’t care who’s been elected to office. We’re headed for some very bad times. I’m usually an optimistic person, but that’s slowly fading.

It is incredible how the people in this town make left turns into the path of oncoming traffic, regardless of how close they are or how fast they are traveling. It is amazing how many village idiots there are in a town this size.

The Bush legacy: Bush says, “I would like to be a person remembered as a person who, first and foremost, did not sell his soul in order to accommodate the political process,” Bush may not have sold his own soul, but he sold a lot of other souls. GWB is barely a person. Much less a soul. He promised to be a compassionate conservative. He turned out to be a conservative without a conscience. Just about everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie. Do you know when he’s lying — whenever his mouth moves. His legacy: the worst president in U.S. history. Thank you very little, George.

The appropriate time for Michael Schwers’ recent letter making personal attacks was probably never, but if he had some sort of argument of merit for the override, he should have written and sent it before the election. Since he did not write such a letter before the election it is clear he did not have anything of value to advocate for the override. Another interesting note is he wrote “not that it matters to me” in reference to the override results on the Herald’s blog on Nov. 5 and admitted his kids attend school in Virginia. This makes you wonder why he wrote his letter at all.

An insightful, interesting, although rather long, article, “The night that changed the world”, part of a series. http://www.brusselsjournal.com/.

So no, people don't shape up when the PD is around. And I can't count the number of times I've watched the SVPD "forget" to signal. "

Maybe they are cruising in the left lane, that lane is a passing lane. And cell phone usage, they drive like they are intoxicated.
Why is it when people leave home, they immediately get on their cell? Cell phones are out of control, and drivers need to get pulled over, but wait, they shape up when PD is around. They dont care. "
