Holiday events
The Yuletide Market Holiday Bazaar will be held today, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Ethel Berger Center and Oscar Yrun Community Center. Call 417-6980.
A Christmas Cantata, “The Voice of the Shepherd,” will be held on Dec. 12 and 13, at 7 p.m., at 2100 E. Yaqui St. in Sierra Vista. The event is presented by the Sierra Vista Stake Choir with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

Tombstone Community Congregational Church Women’s Fellowship will have a Christmas bazaar and bake sale today, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Second and Allen streets. Handcrafted gifts will be available, plus there will be a raffle for a beautiful hand-sewn Victorian-style quilt and other items. Breakfast will be served at 8:30 and lunch at 11.
The Fort Huachuca Community Spouses’ Club annual Tour of Homes is slated for Sunday, from 1 to 5 p.m. The cost is $10 in advance and $12 on the day of the tour. The tour begins at the Fort Huachuca Museum. Purchase tickets at the museum, at Safeway, or contact Pam Sherod at sherod@cox.net.
Bisbee
Central School Project will have a holiday art bazaar through Sunday. The event will run from 7 to 10 p.m. on Friday and from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Central School Project’s three-fold mission is to provide affordable creative space for working artists, preserve and adapt the historic building as a cultural center, and foster appreciation of the arts in the community.
The Art Benko and Bisbee World War II Memorial steering committee and Bisbee High School class of 1941 will host a dedication ceremony of the new monument at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Lavender Pit view point. The memorial serves as a testament to the ultimate sacrifice of Bisbee’s military personnel who were killed while serving their country during World War II.
Patagonia
Ben Lomeli, a hydrologist and natural resources scientist, will present “What Happened to the Water?” at the meeting of the Friends of Sonoita Creek in Cady Hall in the Patagonia Library at 1:30 p.m. today. Lomeli specializes in water rights, riparian ecosystems, flood control, riverine morphology, grazing systems, erosion control, site and water development, groundwater and international issues.
Huachuca City
A 50th anniversary celebration for Huachuca City will be held on Monday, from 4 to 8 p.m., at Sunny’s Cafe on Highway 90 in Huachuca City. The event is a meatloaf dinner party, with coffee or ice tea with one refill. The cost is $2.50 plus tax for residents and former residents, and $6.25 plus extras and tax for non-residents.
Sierra Vista
The Thunder Mountain Republican Women’s Club/Huachuca Area Republican Women’s Club will meet at 11 a.m. on Dec. 15 for a combined luncheon at the Windemere Hotel and Conference Center. There will be a Christmas program featuring pianist, Mr. Purciello; vocalist, Laurie Daynes; violinist, Zanetta Boughan; and the Fred Whitley Quartet. There will be a book signing for William R. Daniel’s “Shootout at Miracle Valley” today, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Cochise College Library in Sierra Vista.
The inaugural Faith Walkathon, hosted by Habitat for Humanity, will be held today at Soldiers Park, which is located next to Mary’s Mission at Taylor Avenue and Garden Street. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. with the two-mile-long planned route walk beginning at 8 a.m. All money raised will help build homes in the community. The Habitat for Humanity in Sierra Vista has been building a playhouse for a local child. You can buy your raffle ticket at the Habitat office in Cochise Plaza across from the mall. The playhouse will be raffled after the Festival of Lights Parade Saturday, at 7:30 p.m., in the Kmart parking lot. Tickets also will be available then.
Stampede USA will hold a Christmas benefit for Cell Phones for Soldiers, the Good Neighbor Alliance and Toys for Totals on Dec. 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at 3680 E. Fry Blvd. The group’s Sierra Vista and Nogales chapters will be collecting cell phones, chargers, accessories, nonperishable food items and new and unwrapped toys. The Sierra Vista Elks Lodge 2065 will celebrate its Annual Elks Memorial Day at 2 p.m. Sunday at the lodge. The Lodge is located on Wilcox Drive, one block east of Buffalo Soldier.
