Shortly after midnight on Sunday, members of the Sierra Vista Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Karima’s Hair Cutters, 200 E. Fry Blvd., Suite 1, said Paul Cimino, fire marshal with the Sierra Vista Fire Department.
The fire was first reported by two people who were walking in the area, Cimino said.

“They saw smoke coming from what looked like the window of the business,” he said. “They also reported seeing somebody running south from that location,” though they could not give a detailed description of the person.
The witnesses called 911 and a sheriff’s deputy was the first to arrive on the scene.
“He tried to extinguish (the fire) with a portable extinguisher,” Cimino said. Shortly after the deputy arrived, firefighters arrived and managed to put out the flames before the fire spread to any other areas of the building.
“The fire was contained to the suite,” he said, “and it originated in the corner of the business.”
The deputy later reported that when he arrived, the glass in the building’s door and windows were broken.
Cimino estimates the building sustained $10,000 in damages, not including the products and equipment inside.
“There was smoke and heat damage throughout the suite and its contents,” he said.
Though the roof and walls did not collapse, the building was deemed uninhabitable by the fire department due to the damage and the age of the building.
The case is currently being handled by the Special Operations division of the Sierra Vista Police Department.
