SIERRA VISTA — Upcoming events at Sierra Vista Regional Health Center’s Wellness Depot in the Mall at Sierra Vista:

• “Survival Strategies for the Holidays” presentation will be held today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Wellness Depot in the mall. Join a dietitian to learn ways not to over-eat during the holidays, relive stress and have fun.

• Wellness Depot will be hosting a monthly introduction series on “Natural & Complimentary Medicine.” The first presentation will be held on Wednesday at 10 to 11 a.m. and again at 4 to 5 p.m.

The presentation is entitled “Natural Health 101: What is all the buzz about Natural Health? “

• “Signs and Symptoms of a Heart Attack and Stroke” presentation will be held Dec. 9 from 4 to 5 p.m. Join the Emergency Department from the hospital to learn the warning signs and symptoms for heart attack and stroke. Early recognition is the key.

• The Wellness Depot will be offering flu shots on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. or while vaccine supplies last.

In general, anyone who wants to reduce their chances of getting the flu can get vaccinated.

The United States Center for Disease Control recommends the following at-risk people receive flu shots: children aged 6 months up to their 19th birthday, pregnant women, people 50 years of age and older, people of any age with certain chronic medical conditions, people who live in nursing homes and other long-term care facilities, and people who live with or care for those at high risk for complications from the flu.

About two weeks after vaccination, antibodies develop that protect against influenza virus infection.

Flu vaccines will not protect against flu-like illnesses caused by non-influenza viruses.

There will be a $26 fee per flu shot and the hopsital will bill for people who are insured by Medicare.

Please bring your Medicare card and picture identification.
