Another difference was the outcome of their first game. As one of the smallest teams in the tournament, the Colts ran circles around Scottsdale Chapparal, 67-49.
Buena led 17-15 at the end of one quarter, 33-29 at the half and by the end of the third quarter pushed it to 46-35.

Sophomore point guard Keyondra White led the way with 22 points and three 3-pointers and Taneka Rubin scored 19 on 8-of-8 shooting from the field. Ciera Simpson added 10 for the Colts who put their 1-0 record on the line tonight at 7:30 p.m. against Gilbert Highland.
Buena committed 16 turnovers in the first half, but corrected their ball-handling woes at halftime, giving it away just five times in the second.
“They were bigger than we were, I think everybody in the tournament is,” Buena head coach Mozelle Williams said. “The difference is the speed drills we did in the off-season.”
Tonight against Highland, the defending state champions who defeated Flowing Wells Tuesday night 89-6 (not a misprint).
“We’re really going to have to step it up defensively,” Williams said.
THS girls lose to St. Augustine
TUCSON — The Tombstone High girls basketball team lost to St. Augustine in the third game of pool play in the Boyd Baker Classic at Green Fields Academy Tuesday.
Tonia Bell three tied the game at 33-33 in the final minute, but the Jackets could score no more, falling 36-33.
Laurie Devere scored seven points and had 13 rebounds and Aj’ha Edwards had six points and five blocks.
The Tombstone girls (1-2) play region rival Benson today at 1:45 p.m.
