Buena held a five-point lead late but a pair of turnovers led to back-to-back Rincon layups that gave the Rangers a 73-72 lead with 16 seconds to play.
On the other end, Buena’s DeChé Milburn was called for a charge with six seconds left. Buena fouled quickly and with five seconds showing, Rincon made one of two free-throw to take a two-point lead.

Buena pushed it up the floor and got a 3-point look for senior guard Daniel Chavez whose shot was off the mark as time expired.
“It was not precise but the physical effort was pretty good,” Buena head coach Dave Glasgow said of his team’s opener. “We need to play better defense and we need to take care of the ball.”
Tonight, the Colts play their second game of pool play, taking on another region opponent, Marana Mountain View at 6:30 p.m. at the Salpointe High School gymnasium.
Buena girls lose to Salpointe
TUCSON — The Buena girls soccer team lost its season-opening match Monday to always powerful Salpointe Catholic 2-0 in the first game of the Brandon Bean Kickoff Classic.
Salpointe outshot Buena five to two on the Lancers’ home field and scored their first goal in the closing minutes of the first half on a free kick and got an insurance goal late in the match off a corner kick.
Venesse Morales played the entire match in goal for the Colts who got a strong effort from defender Amanda Buttner in keeping the score as close as it was.
Tonight, the Colts play their first home match of the season, hosting Douglas at 6 p.m. in the second game of pool play in the tournament.
THS boys perfect, girls split
TUCSON — The Tombstone boys basketball team got out to a roaring start Monday in the Boyd Baker tournament at Green Fields Academy in Tucson, while the Yellowjacket girls held their own.
The THS boys defeated San Manuel defeated San Manuel in the first game 53-48 and in the evening beat Ray 45-40 with both games ending in similar fashion.
With the score knotted at 46-46 in the first game, Cruz Mora made back-to-back steals resulting in back-to-back layups that cinched it for the Jackets.
In the nightcap, the score was tied at 40-40 when consecutive steals by Travis Soto sealed it.
Soto had 25 points against Ray after posting 16 points and 16 rebounds against San Manuel. Mora had 15 against San Manuel and Zac Rogalski added seven. Dante Flores scored eight in both games and Taylor Urias had eight against Ray.
The Tombstone boys play tonight at 8:45 against St. Augustine.
The Tombstone girls lost to San Manuel, 37-30 in the early game Monday but battled back to beat Chino Valley in the nightcap, 37-35.
Thirty-five turnovers cost the Tombstone girls in the first game and overshadowed Laurie Devere’s 13 points and 16 rebounds. Devere had 20 points and 21 rebounds. Sophomore Davina Brown added 11 rebounds.
