I watched CNN this morning and they said the national average for gas was $2.20 per gallon. Gee. What happened to Sierra Vista? They don’t seem to care about the price of gas. Why not? I know on the military base they can raise the price and have it what they want but this is Sierra Vista. You know what? This town should be changed from Sierra Vista to Greedy Vista because they are not going to lower the price to the national level. It’s $1.99 per gallon in Oklahoma City. Shame on them.
It’s pretty obvious that election fraud is taking place in the state of Minnesota. When all the recounted ballots that have errors go for one candidate in only three precincts and none are for the other candidate you can be assured there is election fraud. The federal government needs to step in, investigate, arrest and convict some people otherwise we are no better than any banana republic. At the moment I have zero confidence in our electoral process.

As to the service station on Fry Boulevard being bullied, what goes around comes around. A good while back I stopped in there to get gas and my car wouldn’t start. They said it was my battery and charged me to get it started. It didn’t work. Then they charged me $56 for a 6-inch cable for the battery. It didn’t work. Then they said it needed a new starter and wanted $250 to put it in telling me the parts were $200 and the labor $50. I called my son to come get me and he pushed my car off their property. We went to the parts dealer and got the starter for $40. I asked the dealer if the service station had called him and he said yes and he had quoted them $40. The service station must have thought that because I was a woman I was a sucker.
I noticed in today’s “At a Glance” about same sex couples including their rights to inheritance, medical decisions, and burial rights. All they have to do is get a lawyer and make all the things they want legal by signing rights, wills, and burials and it will be taken care of. It’s actually legal in this country. Did you know that in California they already teach kindergartners that it’s all right to have a mommy/mommy and a daddy/daddy? And by the way, their choice for same sex gender is their own will. They were not made that way like they want you to believe. If you are told over and over the same lie it’s OK sooner or later you will believe it. Just look at the Scopes trial. There are some that say we come from monkeys or other animals.
There was a comment in today’s newspaper saying there’s not a darn thing we can do about the gas prices. If people would band together and pick a certain day and don’t buy gas from a certain gas station, they’ve proven this works in other cities. It causes a great financial loss to the gas stations. I also wanted to say to the station owners: You might be making a few bucks off the people here in Sierra Vista by cheating them. But one day you will stand before God and give an account and I don’t think those few bucks are going to be worth it when God tells you what you’ve done.
One of the local grocery stores is advertising buy 10 items and you get a discount. What if you are a single or a married couple and you can’t use 10 items? You can’t get the discount? They ought to do away with that and do maybe three or four items, but 10 items is way too much unless you have a family. Have sales once in a while for singles and married couples.
This is in reference to the gentleman who said if I don’t like tailgaters I should pull over into the right lane. He needs to be reminded as to the laws of the road. The speed is the same in both lanes. There is no such thing as a fast lane in the city or anywhere else. If you like to tailgate, I suggest you leave a little bit earlier so you don’t have to speed.
I recently inquired of a local institution for information about a reverse mortgage. I gave them my circumstances and they called me back in about three days. The particulars are the paperwork preparation would cost me over $5,000 up front. I replied, thanks but no thanks. I guess the old axiom “buyer beware” is still good.
I’d like to remind all you Bush haters and all of you people who revise history the president can’t do anything without the consent of Congress, and everything Bush did Congress voted for it to approve it. So now it’s my turn to watch Obama for the next four years and blame everything on him.
My child goes to Town & Country Elementary School and when he came home I asked, “What did you have for lunch today?” He said peanut butter on a half bagel, and I said, “What? I pay $1.55 for that?”

To all of the low-cost gasoholics. You complained when gas in Sierra Vista was $1.25 a gallon. You complained when gas came down to $3, and now that gas is $2.50, you are complaining gas is still cheaper in Tucson and you prefer to buy to there. Now if you want to use 8 to 10 gallons of gas to drive to Tucson to save $5 on a fill up, be my guest. Undoubtedly, you are students of our present Economics 101 class. Have you, or are you presently working for the government, by any chance?
I attended the Veterans (Day) Parade and, of course, I was very impressed with all the veterans. But I also wanted to say the Fort Huachuca Band director was dressed for the part, and I thought it was so nice he dressed up with his band. The other band directors did not. I just wanted to tell him how impressed my husband and I were with that.
Obama killing millions of babies by being pro-choice? Have you seen the count of innocent children killed and wounded in Iraq? Why is an American child’s life worth more than a child of another background? I’ve yet to see any Republican address child neglect, abused children or medical advances that will help children and adults alike. Most Republican views are obviously religiously based. In the USA, there is a known separation of church and state. Perhaps if you lived in the Middle East, where religious values rule, you’d think differently. This is nothing better than the regimes in the middle east we are so against. As a proud American and free thinker I have seen too many fellow Americans battle for simple health care. It’s obvious the only thing that matters is protecting the fetus and not life after birth. Get real, wake up and give reality a chance.
To the person who said “For the person who is getting tired of getting tailgated on Highway 92, move over and get out of the left lane.” That person was talking about in the construction zone through Nicksville. There is no “left lane.” It is a construction zone with double fines for speeding and full of equipment, workers, and the lanes are narrow. You should think about riding a bicycle if you can’t see why it is important to go the posted speed in that zone. I’m positive you forgot the part in the driver’s manual about safe following distance and posted speed limits. DPS can help you with that.
Well, I guess we all know by now why so many business and financial entities failed recently. After receiving a financial transfusion from our Uncle Sam with the tax dollars from “we the people” who are just ordinary people like house painters, automobile mechanics, farm workers and perhaps military members of our Department of Defense, the executives of AIG had a corporate meeting. The meeting was not held in the corporate building on Wall Street. Of course not. The princes had to meet at one of the most expensive resorts on Planet Earth now that they had the money from peasants like you and me. I guess we now know why business products and services cost we the people so very much. I think it is time for the Princes to get real.
Over the past couple of years this feature of the Herald has contained items harshly critical of President Bush. Should the same adjectives be made in reference to a President Obama when he stubs his political toe, and he will, in the right context they could be considered racist. Some might also be twisted or construed to be hate crimes, punishable offenses. The bottom line here is the voters have very effectively muzzled the white majority, which might affect the advance of the progressive agenda.
You let it be known several times that your editors, not the reporters, put the headlines on your articles. Well, somebody must have been sleeping when they put this headline in today’s newspaper, “Fort’s transition unit sees 2nd death of soldier.” How can someone die two times? Wake up.
I read an article today on page A2 titled, “Nuclear deficiencies at base in Billings MT” by The AP. I’d like to protest the issuing of such information as a threat to our national security. This article is a dangerous gift in wartime, which is what we have. We shouldn’t give such information to our enemies. This is not a joke. Remember the saying in World War II, “Loose lips sink ships?”
I’d like to comment on Maria Elena Salinas’ column, “Latino voters came through.” She writes that now that Obama has been elected what will he do for the Latino community in exchange for its support? My gosh. The Latino community, in other words illegal Hispanics, has bankrupted this country through the health care system. A lady wrote in paper yesterday that she couldn’t even get AHCCCS even though she was a taxpayer and was born in this country. Yet they paid $56,000 to airlift an illegal to Phoenix for a knee injury. Something is wrong. What does she mean, what is he going to do for Latinos? Let these people come in here legally and if they want a better life, let them stand in line like everybody else. They have bankrupted our system through food stamps, our welfare system, and our schools. That column is downright disgusting. She should be ashamed.
Each year my family attends the Veterans Day memorial at the Bisbee Evergreen Cemetery. Each year the Veterans Day Memorial and the Memorial Day ceremony gets a little bigger thanks to Frank Martinez and other veterans. The ceremony this year was quite touching but did have one flaw. The new mayor-elect who served in the services didn’t attend and he was in town. The rest of the City Council and the former mayor-to-be attended.

I find it interesting that comments in OYM regarding the election results can be so strange. Those who agree with the passage of Proposition 102 say that the majority of the voters have “spoken,” so now the state constitution will be changed to reflect the “will” of the people. Yet when it comes to Obama’s majority win and the victories of any of the Democratic candidates, those in the opposition claim the voters have been duped or brainwashed, have been influenced by the “liberal media,” or are just plain stupid for voting the way they did. Why don’t they say that the results are also due to the “will” of the people, rather than insulting the 6.4 million people who voted for the winner?
I see Councilman Craig Johnson is forced to step down because his college position has been canceled. I assume he will be leaving the area. I hate to see him go; he’s been a very good councilman. As for who the city council will appoint for the remainder of his newly elected term I can just imagine all the back room meetings and secret phone calls going on now amongst the council members to see who they want in instead of who the citizens would like. The name Chris Campas immediately comes to mind. The young man has run for the office and lost by very few votes and was almost elected. He seems to be the obvious choice of someone who wants to serve our city as a council member. But the council members have probably already decided to elect one of the old cronies from the old guard.
EDITOR’S NOTE: In the article, it stated that Johnson announced he’ll be leaving the area. He has accepted a job in New York.
