Running club applauds support for Lenio event

Published/Last Modified on Friday, Nov 21, 2008 - 05:16:31 am MST

To the Editor:

The Thunder Mountain Running Club’s history dates back to August 1977, when the Fort Huachuca commanding general, in order to promote running on post, asked his secretary of the general’s staff to organize a running club. To date, the TMRC organizes and directs 10 grand prix events and a few additional non grand prix events annually.

A major fundraiser event for TMRC is the Paul Lenio 5k Run/Walk, held annually since 1993, to support Hospice, Casa de la Paz. This year’s event was held on Sept. 7 with 149 participants. The sponsorship/donations from many of the local businesses in our Sierra Vista community raised $1,936, which will provide much needed support for purchasing equipment and supplies along with assisting a person without insurance.

We would like to thank all of the people who came out and supported and participated in this event. We also would like to thank the following local community businesses that provided sponsorship and donations. They are as follows: Summit Fitness, Hot Tamales, Ace Hardware, Sierra Cycles, Allstate Lasher Rockwell Agency Inc, D & M Tire, Thunder Mountain Ventures LLC, Rio Verde Realty, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Co, Home Depot, M & M Cycle, Sun ’N Spokes Inc., Pizza Hut Bistro, Pizza Hut, Fry’s Food, and Food City . Because of everyone’s assistance the event was truly a success.
