Christian Women of Sierra Vista will present their annual Christmas Tea on Dec. 13, from 2 to 4 p.m., at Sierra Vista United Methodist Church, 3225 St. Andrews Drive. Tickets are $15. Call 378-0797.

Bisbee


Cha-Ching, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club, will be held Friday from 6 to 10 p.m. at Turquoise Valley Golf and RV Park. A $30 ticket includes dinner, entertainment and a player’s package that will cover games of craps, blackjack, Texas hold ‘em, roulette and more. Proceeds will go toward the Kiwanis Club-sponsored Cub Scout Pack 401. Call Dave Cartun, 432-7766.

Sierra Vista

The Thunder Mountain Republican Women’s Club will have a luncheon on Tuesday at the Pueblo del Sol Country Club, starting at 11 a.m. Bill Hess and Suzanne Cronn, journalists from the Herald/Review, will present a slideshow presentation about their month-long trip in Iraq. Huachuca Toastmasters, a nonprofit educational group dedicated to helping its members improve their public speaking and leadership skills, will host an open house meeting at 11:30 a.m. today at the Education Center Annex A, Building 21114, at the corner of Christy Avenue and Adair on Fort Huachuca. The Sierra Vista Area Gardeners Club will meet today, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the Oscar Yrun Center. Meg Richard will present “How to make a Wreath.” Call 366-5447.

The 1200 Club, a local Republican organization, will meet at 6 p.m. on Friday at Pueblo del Sol Country Club. Sharon Giese, an Arizona state committeewoman, will analyze the results of the general election. Reservations must be made in advance by calling Barbara Kilness, 459-1715, or by sending your check with reservation request to 1200 Club, P.O. Box 832, Sierra Vista AZ  85636. The cost is $20 per person.

Thunder Mountain Activity Centre will present “Salsa Night” on Friday, starting at 7 p.m. Learn to salsa with instructor Dennis Kerr. The cost is $10 for the one-hour lesson. No partner is necessary, but you must be 18 or older to attend. Following the dance lesson until 2 a.m., a DJ will provide music, and drink specials will be offered. There will be a $5 cover charges for non-participants. Call 533-3802.

In conjunction with an annual national celebration, the Sierra Vista Public Library will have a storytelling event for adults at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The Friends of the Library will sponsor local professional storyteller Karl Hallsten, who will tell stories geared toward the adult interest level. Fourth-grade students and older are welcome.

The Sierra Vista Optimist Club is sponsoring its annual Coats for Kids Drive, which will run through Nov. 24. The collection of coats, sweaters and gloves benefits local school children who are in need of warm winter wear. These garments are distributed through the local schools to those children who need them most. Donation points are: Buzz Breads, 2151 S. Highway 92; Southeast Arizona Association of Realtors, 125 S. Second St.; Landmark Cafe, 400 W. Fry Blvd.; Sierra Lutheran Church, 101 N. Lenzner Ave.; American Legion Post 52, corner of Canyon and Theater drives; and at the office of Robert Atkinson, Cochise College, Sierra Vista campus. 901 N. The Sierra Vista Environmental Operations Park is open for bird walks each Sunday morning. The walks take about two hours and are led by docents from Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory, Huachuca Audubon Society and the Friends of the San Pedro River. Walks depart from the viewing platform at 8 a.m. The park entrance is located on Highway 90 between mileage markers 324 and 325 on the north side of the highway. All tours are free, although donations are invited. The walks are limited to 20 people and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Special walks for large groups and walks on days other than Sunday can be arranged. Contact Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory at 432-1388.

AARP Tax-Aide is looking for donations of old computer equipment. The organization needs three computers that run Windows XP, keyboards and ice with USB connections, preferably, though the group will accept those with PS2 connections. Any wired network equipment, such as switches or Ethernet cables, also is appreciated.

AARP Tax-Aide is seeking volunteers for the 2009 tax season. No previous tax preparation experience necessary, one week of training will be conducted in late January. Each person is required to work one day a week — about five hours — from the first of February through April 15 at the Oscar Yrun Community Center. Join docents from the Friends of the San Pedro River on interpretive walks along the river Saturday. The walks depart from the San Pedro House near Sierra Vista at 9 a.m. Call 459-2555.

A new Alcoholics Anonymous chapter is getting off the ground at the Good Neighbor Alliance, 420 N. Seventh St. Meetings are held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (for women only) and Saturday. The theme is “Courage to Change.” Call George at 236-5642.

    " Does Bisbee purchase the paper or do they have ownership as well. The reason I ask is because I rarely see community events listed about Bisbee. Only recently on the radio. I know the Review and the herald are exactly the same paper. Why wont you all talk more about Bisbee, probably because no one is from Bisbee right? Just a question. "
