Recently I went into Sierra Vista planning and zoning to obtain a permit to install a solar grid system at our house. P&Z wanted almost $300 for a permit. What I’d like to know is this: If the city of Bisbee has a no fee permit for solar or wind power, and Cochise County charges $80 and they’re trying to reduce that, what is wrong in Sierra Vista? It looks like they do not want to encourage alternative sources of power. I think we need some big changes in city hall, especially P&Z. By the way, they were pretty rude in there, too.

I find it interesting that Obama talked a lot about unity and reaching out to those who disagree with him. Empty words my friends, just empty words. The proof will begin in today’s on your mind. I challenge readers to look throughout this section and see if you see any indication whatsoever that Obama’s supporters are willing to reach out to the conservative agenda. If Obama cannot even bring his own supporters to a spirit of unity, how will he reach out to conservatives? Obama’s Chicago-style unity will be to crush dissent, just like he did with Joe the Plumber. Unity? Yeah right. With Pelosi and Reed leading congress these folks will be drunk with power shifting government and the courts to the extreme left for generations to come. Welcome to your new country, comrades!
I really hope Mr. Rheinheimer will let the Corbett case rest. He has wasted so many county dollars in hiring special prosecutors, relocating the case and so forth it is ridiculous. Two mistrials should tell you they have no case! I know our county could use that money more wisely. I sure hope the county board will stop him from doing anything further with this case.
I’m just getting over the shock of the Nov. 4 presidential results. During the campaign I spent many hours researching Barack Obama and sadly discovered the man isn’t who he told us he is. I was obviously disappointed to witness the majority of American voters blindly voting this political impostor into the highest office in the land. Aside from all his eloquent histrionics, I truly shudder at the thought that this false political messiah has my personal destiny and the destiny of our great country in his hands.
I wrote to the state Attorney’s Office on Oct. 27 about price gouging on gasoline and just received an answer. Basically it states, in part, “while high gasoline prices are upsetting to consumers, they are not fundamentally illegal. Gasoline prices are not regulated in Arizona. Absent some evidence of collusion or other anti-competitive behavior, the Attorney’s Office cannot take legal action against retailers who may legally charge what they think the market will bear.” It also goes on in part “Anti-price gouging laws usually prohibit price gouging only during declared states of emergency or abnormal market disruptions.” The closing states that if there is evidence of price fixing or other collusive practices please share with them. In other words the citizens of Arizona and the city of Sierra Vista and just out of luck. This seems wrong to me.
I would like to thank the voters of Bisbee for electing two new school board members and helping rid our school system of the previous superintendent’s puppets. Now our community can regain the trust and everyone can work together in a positive direction. Board President (Ed) Matchett needs to be recalled and taken out of office and then the school board without doubt will be headed in the right direction. Gail Covington, the Bisbee schools superintendent, will be guided in an honest, trustworthy way and deserves the chance to get our school system back on the right track. Keep up the good work, Gail. Our community has given you a better school board to guide you, and in the near future, if the voters of Bisbee will support a recall election and win, you’ll be set to make our school system the best.
Obama’s winning the presidency is not historic because he is black. After all, Bush had two black secretaries of state, we’ve had two black Supreme Court justices, etc. It is historic because he is the first president who is a Marxist and believes in the philosophy of socialism, which is redistribution of wealth. We are a generous nation and give to needy causes, but we get to make those decisions, not some bureaucrat government worker. At least we will not have to hear “It’s Bush’s fault” for everything to weather change to the Democrats Freddie Mac/Fannie Mae financial mess that perpetrated most of our present day financial woes and our IRA’s losing their value.
I want to express my disgust and disbelief over the passage of Prop. 102. I’m shocked to discover that my great state is so filled with fear, hate and intolerance. Who are we to decide who can or can’t fall in love? How is this any different from saying a black person can’t marry a white person? Let me tell you, it isn’t. This is segregation. It makes us no different than the slave owners of the 1800s or the fascist murderers of Nazi Germany. This vote made Arizona voters synonymous with bigots. I’m deeply ashamed to be an Arizonan.
To those of you who believed the Republican lies about Obama, I say, do not fear this good and decent man. He is a Christian; he is a patriotic American. He will protect you. He will go down in history books as one of the greatest presidents we have ever had. I realize it takes some folks longer to believe than others, but time will prove to you that I am right. I have written for OYM 33 times during this election to try to correct the misconceptions, the half-truths, to try to allay the fears about Barack Obama. Now I say to you, see the good that will unfold. Have faith in the voice of the vast majority of the American people. God has always sent our country great leaders when we needed them, during the Revolution, the Civil War, World War II, the Depression, and so it is again.
I’d like to congratulate Trudy Berry for her re-election to the Cochise County Superintendent’s Office. People of Cochise County spoke and that’s why she was re-elected by such a large margin. She was the only qualified person.
I just read in today’s newspaper that Huachuca City just received a donation of books from the government of Mexico written in Spanish. What does this tell us? That Huachuca City doesn’t have any citizens that can read English. Where are we going here that we have to have books donated from Mexico City for people in Arizona to read because they are all Mexicans and not taking time to read English as we said this is an English-speaking state. I don’t know where we are going here.
I’m still trying to figure out what really happened on election night. Was it a repudiation of the status quo? Was it the free-fall of the economy with all of its potential consequences? Was it the possibility of the Bush/Cheney/Palin anchor team that has pulled Sen. John McCain down? Or was it the final swan song of Karl Rove? It’s as if a giant tsunami has flushed over our entire nation from coast to coast washing away the good, the bad and the ugly.
It’s good to see that the people of California still have some common sense and that they overturned those activist judges’ ruling that they could have gays marry. They banned gay marriage. That’s good. Also, I want to congratulate the people of Arizona for showing the will of the people is still intact.
I find it very strange and incorrect to say our next president is an African-American. He is also half white. He could have been born with white skin — a 50/50 chance. As myself, he was raised in Hawaii by Caucasians. Hawaii is the only white state populated by so many races and social backgrounds in which race has no prevalence. So get it correct, citizens of our nation. Mr. Obama is not African-American. He is American as are the rest of us that have many races combined to make us who we are. Only when we have a full-blooded American of African descent can we say we finally have an African-American in the White House. “Sorry” to those folks who voted to get an African-American as president. History has not yet been made.
I want to thank Cox Cable on their quality service on Fox channel 11 at 7 o’clock today. Hopefully they will get this digital problem resolved before February next year when everything goes digital. It’s very annoying to run into these problems not only on Fox, but also on KUAT, NBC and many other channels. Work on it before time runs out.
Now will the real racists please stand up? You know whom I’m talking about. Those who voted for Obama for one reason and one reason only and you know what that is. You are the racists.
God help us all. Not only have we a do-nothing Congress with a head honcho who is a leftist-socialist and with members who do nothing but collect money from special interests for their next campaign and get re-elected by voters who seem to be easily swayed by celebrity talking heads. Now we have a news media elected inexperienced president who is and will be influenced by those who seek nothing less than the destruction of this country as we know it. That is the “change” they seek. God help us all.
Now I know how my ancestors felt when Confederacy fell. Now I know how the people of Rhodesia felt when their country went under and became black majority rule. South Africa and now the United States. Well, boys and girls, you better get used to it because it’s coming — the end of the United States of America.
These are just a few thoughts on the budget override that failed yesterday. Only a few hours ago the people spoke and already I see in the newspaper that we are going to be educated again. They’re going to try it again a year from now. I’ve got news for you. You can educate me all you want, but until somebody does something about my fixed income I’m not voting for any overrides. I don’t think the critical needs of the children are being met by P.E., band, music and art. The main job is to get these kids educated academically so they can proceed to college and do college level work. These are nice to have subjects but not critical to the needs of students. So I’ll say save your money, save your breath and don’t try to educate me. I cannot afford any more overrides no matter how much education you give me.
On Page A12 today I find an interesting article about the citizens of Sierra Vista defeating the budget override. School Superintendent Agenbroad was very diplomatic, but one thing I noticed about school board member Deb Scott was she needs to smell the coffee, wake up and realize that if you get rid of the over inflated hierarchy in the schools including so many of the assistant superintendents and their assistants you might have more money to play with. Also why do the bus drivers drop off the early morning kids at school and then go home or other places in the buses instead of taking the buses back to the yard and taking their own cars home until they come back in the afternoon to pick up children released from school? Their cars would get much better mileage. We do support education. We don’t support people like Scott who wants to spend, spend and spend ridiculously.

Why doesn’t the sheriff’s department patrol Davis Road? People just fly down that road. They need to get out there and police that place.
The leader of Afghanistan has asked our president-elect to stop killing civilians in his country. I believe it is time to tell the leadership of the Middle Eastern countries to tell the terrorists to stop firing weapons at our military from behind innocent children and others. Our military has the right to defend itself from such attacks and we regret any and all such losses which will stop only when the childish terrorists grow up.
For the past six months at least there has been a car parked on the 600 block of Bisbee Road in Bisbee within three feet of the fire hydrant. The Bisbee police either don’t notice it or don’t care to notice that it’s there and too close. We know how lame the Bisbee fire chief is so he wouldn’t even have the guts to bring it up. Something needs to be done.
Bush and the Republicans and all who voted for Bush in 2004 have destroyed our great country. Good luck President-elect Obama, you have one of the greatest messes in American history to clean up. And many thanks to the religious right, for it is you who have brought down the Republican Party.
It’s unbelievable that Prop. 102 passed. The next thing you know the government is going to tell us who to marry and what to do in our bedrooms. What a bunch of morons the general public is to pass this bill.
This is in reference to the news items about other countries’ celebrations after Election Day. Has it not occurred to anyone that these countries were not celebrating Obama’s win but rather the United States’ loss? Historically many “little guys” cheer from the sidelines when the “big guy” gets hurt even if the big guy has saved them, nurtured them and protected them. Remember France? It feeds their little egos and vicariously makes them “better.”
I want you to know I’m very upset with the management of a restaurant on the fort. This young man told me he quit working there because he was harassed by young soldiers who made fun of him and cursed him. I know this young man is a special person and he loves God. So shame on you manager for not getting onto these young soldiers who will surely grow up some day and say “there go I but for the grace of God.” I thought the Army made men tough yet these are acting like teenage boys. And shame on you manager for letting him quit on account of this. He could not stand any more harassment. I really feel sorry for him because he loves to work and he’s now worried he can’t find a job. Think about it.

Fifty-two percent of the American electorate voted for a one-party system — whether intended or not. Democrats now control the White House, the House and a no-filibuster Senate (counting the few liberal Republicans who almost always vote with Democrats). When Republicans controlled all three, Democrats always enjoyed a comfortable filibuster option in the Senate. With Republicans now minus the filibuster option, Democrats have free reign of legislation and a Democrat president to rubber-stamp it. This is a one-party system. Half the American electorate which may well disagree with the Democrat agenda will have no voice in government. Will there be a watchdog for corruption or scrutiny of legislation? Where? The mainline media is a lapdog for Democrats. Strains of dictatorial government? Democrat talk of bipartisan government sounds hypocritical. Remember the same Democrat gibberish after the 2006 elections?
I am glad to know that an actual helicopter pilot also thinks the charges to transport to a Tucson hospital via helicopter are off the charts. My charges were $15,000 plus. And let’s not forget the 90-something folks that were charged $32,000 (Sept. 15 OYM). I hope the CEO at SV hospital will double check that contract. The finance office didn’t know how much they charged. It took me 14 months to resolve my issue — something I did not need after a heart attack. Otherwise, much praise to Sierra Vista hospital and staff. Not one complaint there.
Would the lady who sold the two cast iron pans with the extra handles, please call 559-2211. I will be happy to give you your handle back, but I don’t remember where I purchased them.
The Herald is blowing its Democratic horn in the Nov. 7 editorial, “Why Janet should stay in Arizona.” The Herald observed that a Republican secretary of state would become governor, if Gov. Janet Napolitano resigned to join an Obama cabinet. What a calamity, should that happen! Isn’t that the way Janet first became governor? If readers were ever in doubt about the Herald’s political bias, that editorial took care of it.
Here’s a hint for you morons who don’t know how to use a drive-thru ATM. Have your card ready before you get there and know what you want to do. If you are going to deposit things, have that ready to go. When you are done, pull forward to read your receipt and put your card away so someone else can use the thing after you.
The election was Tuesday. This is Friday and still there are no published results of the local races. What’s up?
EDITOR’S NOTE: Wednesday’s edition had results of the local races.
So most of the people who took the newspaper’s online poll say they are very unsatisfied with the outcome of this election. Well, you know folks, we have nowhere to go but up because it couldn’t get any worse than the last eight years have been. I really believe it may take a long time, but I think it’s going to get better because this man has the majority of the country behind him, unlike the citizenry of this little burg who are all red except for a few of us smart people.
To the caller complaining about barking dogs in Bisbee: Maybe if you weren’t so enormously hung over every morning sounds of the neighborhood wouldn’t be so magnified.
