The Huachuca Art Association will have an art-related garage sale at 10 a.m. Saturday at the HAA Gallery, 3818 Astro St.

Huachuca City

Huachuca City VFW Post 10342 will hold a swap meet on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the post, 1301 Cochise Street. Call 456-2501 or 456-0073, or send e-mail to vfw10342@powerc.net. Also, the post and its ladies auxiliary will have a steak fry Friday, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The post will have a pancake breakfast Saturday, from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.



Sierra Vista

A fitness and wellness seminar will be held today and Nov. 19, from 9 to 11 a.m., in Our Lady of the Mountains church hall. Call Bobby Widhalm at 803-7788.

The American Legion will host a dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday for those who have paid their dues early. To qualify, dues must be prepaid by Friday. Call 459-6050.

The ladies auxiliary of VFW Post 9972, 549 Veterans Drive, will have an Italian dinner Friday, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Explore a seldom visited area of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area on a hike with the Friends of the San Pedro River on Saturday starting at 9 a.m. The leisurely hike will explore the St. David Research Natural Area. Hikers will look for signs of early settlers and nature. Bring water and lunch and be prepared to get your feet wet. This hike is rated moderately difficult.  The fee is $5 per person and proceeds support educational programs of the Friends of the San Pedro River. Call 459-2555.

The Cochise and Western Model Railroad Club will have its fall open house on Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, at the clubhouse, located at 680 Fort Ave. Call Steve at 439-9777.

There will be a guided tour of Buffalo Soldier historic sites at noon on Saturday at the Fort Huachuca Museum. Call 417-6960.

Everything in the bookstore run by the Friends of the Sierra Vista Public Library will be on sale at half price on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The store is to the left of the library entrance.

There will be a spaghetti dinner fundraiser for the Children’s Christmas Party on Saturday, from 5 to 7 p.m., in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 156 Kayetan Drive. A free-will offering will be taken up. Donations for prizes may be sent to Knights of Columbus Hall; P.O. Box 296; Sierra Vista AZ 85636. Note “Christmas Party” in the check memo.

The Democratic Women of Southeastern Arizona will meet at the Pueblo del Sol Country Club at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The cost is $11, and reservations are necessary. Charles Flanagan will present “Women in the Prison System.” The nominating committee will announce the new slate of officers. Call 803-0815 for reservations and/or questions.

The Range Riders 4 Wheel Drive Club is sponsoring 4 Wheeling 101, a free class for licensed drivers of 4 wheel drive vehicles. The course will take place on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location will be provided for those who register. Learn how to prepare your vehicle to go off-road, how to use low and high range, and safety tip. The Range Riders have a guided trail run that will take you on a scenic pass through the Huachuca Mountains that is suitable for beginner-to-intermediate drivers and stock 4 wheel drive vehicles. There will be a “No to Torture Rally” at Veterans’ Memorial Park starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday, followed in the early afternoon by a march to Fort Huachuca’s Main Gate. Visit southwestwitness.org.

The Sierra Vista Woman’s Club’s fall fundraiser will be on Nov. 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Outback Steakhouse, 99 S. Highway 92. Tickets are $20. The menu will be build-your-own salad, with either shrimp, chicken, steak, and dessert and coffee, tea or soft drink. The Outback donates the food and service for this luncheon and proceeds benefit nursing scholarships at Cochise College & University of Arizona; Music Awards to Buena High School students and other unmet community needs. For tickets, call 803-8809 or go to the Safeway in Sierra Vista.

The Huachuca Mineral & Gem Club will meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 19 at Room 304-305 at Cochise College. Anna Domitrovic, retired curator of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, will present “Wulfenite, a Distinguished Mineral.” The club will have a field trip on Nov. 22 to Gold Gulch near Bisbee. Until 12,000 years ago, when people came into the San Pedro Valley, megafauna such as mammoths, giant beaver, saber tooth tigers, camels and horses lived in our region. Why are megafauna extinct? What took their places? Who were the Clovis people who lived here and hunted these animals? Learn more at a free program sponsored by SAVE, at 7 p.m. on Nov. 20, in Room 313 at Cochise College. The 1200 Club, a local Republican organization, will meet at 6 p.m. on Nov. 21 at Pueblo del Sol Country Club. Sharon Giese, an Arizona state committeewoman, will analyze the results of the general election on a national, state and local level. Reservations must be made in advance by calling Barbara Kilness, 459-1715, or by sending your check with reservation request to 1200 Club, P.O. Box 832, Sierra Vista AZ  85636. The cost of the dinner is $20 per person if paid in advance.

The Sierra Vista West Rotary Club will have a poker run Nov. 22 to raise funds for service projects in the West End. Bicyclists and motorcyclists can participate. There will be a route for each. The event will kick off at 11 a.m. at the Outback Steakhouse, 99 S. Highway 92. The run will end at the Sorry Gulch Saloon, 526 W. Fry Blvd. The cost is $35 per person and $10 per extra passenger. Register by Saturday and receive a free shirt. Call 249-8874.
