SIERRA VISTA — The Salpointe Catholic Lancers lived up to their No. 4 ranking Friday evening, scoring the first four times they had the ball enroute to a 59-21 victory over the Buena Colts.

It took less than two minutes for the Lancers to get on the board, going 80 yards on four plays with running back Christian Ramirez plunging in from the 5.

Sam Seeger booted the first of eight PATs and the rout was on.

Ramirez scored three more times in the first half on runs of 8, 28 and 23 yards and quarterback Trevor Eggleston passed for touchdowns of 27 and 59 yards.

Seeger booted a 25-yard field goal with seconds left in the half that was set up by a Buena fumble that gave the Lancers their 45 first-half points.

Buena got on the board with 4:34 to play in the half going 80 yards on four plays culminating in quarterback J.T. May hitting DeChe Milburn on a 62-yard pass play.

Darius Kelly ran in for the two-point conversion and the score stood at 45-8 at halftime.

Ramirez’s fifth touchdown of the game just under three minutes into the third quarter sent the contest into a running clock mode under the 42-point lead rule as the Lancers went up, 52-8.

But the running clock mode didn’t last long as May hit Ryan Witt on a 15-yard pass play with 4:53 to play in the third quarter to cut the margin to 52-14.

Both teams scored in the fourth quarter, Buena on a 54-yard pass from May to Witt and Jon Sayler booted the PAT, cutting the lead to 52-21.

The Lancers ended the scoring on a 2-yard run by Raul Miranda with 2:21 to play in the game.

With the exception of the Lancer’s 41-14 loss to Ironwood Ridge, Buena’s 21 points was the most scored against the Lancer defense this season.

Buena was led by Charles Sublet who had 41 yards on 10 carries.

May hit on 15-of-30 attempts for 301 yards and three touchdowns., while Witt had six receptions for 91 yards and two touchdowns and  Milburn three receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown.

Salpointe’s Ramirez rushed for 173 yards on 11 carries and scored five touchdowns. Eggleston was 11-for-14 for 285 yards and two touchdowns, while the Lancers Mike Descisciola had four receptions for 137 yards and one touchdown.

The Colt defense was led by DeAndre Little and Troy Haymore each with nine tackles and Gabe Samuels with five tackles and a fumble recovery.

There was no score reported for the Southern Region 5A-I matchup between Tucson and Casa Grande.

In the region’s 5A-II big matchup, Sunnyside edged Ironwood Ridge, 27-24 and Marana Mountain View defeated Rincon, 42-30.

Buena closes out the season Friday, traveling to Casa Grande.

" o buena fan how can you be a true buena fan and say the tutle is a better qb athlete perhaps. but jt is a much better qb so you should stop talking and acting like you know anything... "

" so herewego are you saying that jt is not going to start over tuttle next year? jt is my best friend, he has worked his butt off more that anyone on that team. he loves the team more than anything and is a true leader. tuttle can not lead. he wants to follow you cannot be a qb and follow. tutle is a great athlete but jt will start because of his work ethic and when jt gets hit he gets back up... "

" Tuttle vs JT, well honestly Tuttle is a better athlete, but JT is a smarter player that makes good decisions with the ball. He steps up in the pocket and deliver the ball. This was the problem the other to athletes had and would not do. The athletes would run out of the pocket and try to create with their legs. Don't get me wrong, that's great if you know what to do once you bail out of the pocket. JT execute all plays and give all fakes which holds up the defense. JT a true QB LUVUMAN!!!GOBUENA!!! "

" JT did play well, especially against Salpointe's 2nd and 3rd team. Jeremy Tuttle will be the quarterback next year. He is a much better QB and athlete than JT. Going in to next season though, Buena will have a better situation at QB and hopefully Xavier Copper gets the nod at running back. "

" Buena was the treat for Salpoint. It's been holloween all year for Buena. The Coaches are the Goons and Gobblins. Like Fat Albert would say, school on a Sunday no class. They left the kids out to dry this game. They gave up early again. Coach Holland the old saying is a good Head Coach surround himself with good assistants. Take it for what it's worth. Friendship is good, but sometimes you have to do the hard things in life. Get a new staff!!!!!!!!!!!! "
