On your mind

Oct. 24

I’m writing about the contract Transportation Express has on post. What is blowing my mind is these soldiers have to wait one hour to two hours before the can get a cab, missing appointments late for formation. What has happened to the new vans? Why are all the old ones back out? And also, why are rent-a-vans being used on weekends? It seems AAFEES is doing nothing and neither are the higher-ups. I guess the old saying goes, It’s all about money. Maybe these people need to ride with Transportation Express and see how the drivers drive and how rude they all are. Maybe something needs to be done. Why isn’t it looked into?

I am a motorcycle rider in Sierra Vista, I am requesting the SV Herald put out a notice or message to locals. I was not involved nor in Tombstone the night the fight happened, but yet every morning since then I have been run off the road, spit on, called names at traffic lights and threatened. I understand freedom of speech, but when it infringes on other peoples’ lives and endangers them that is enough. I just ask the hatred and now segregation be stopped.

My Herald TV guide says Penn State will play basketball at Ohio State on Channel 9 at 5 p.m. today. I think it will be football. Boo, boo?

I was wondering if there was anything you can do about the ink in your newspaper. Every night after I read it my hands are black and my clothes are filthy black, which is very hard to get out. It’s just really bad. I wish you could do something about the ink. It’s so black and comes off so easy. Anything white that I’m wearing is unbelievably dirty every evening.

Twenty-four years and Lute Olson only won one championship. Well, la dee dah.

To the dog owners who live on Christina and Wildwood Court: Those dogs bark starting at 6 a.m., wake up the neighborhood, and continue barking most of the day into the evening. Those people are not at home; they are at work and do not control their dogs. If you do not do something about this we will call the police. We are losing a lot of sleep and it is affecting our health. You do not care about your neighbors. Please control your dogs from barking.

In response to the letter about CPS: CPS does its own thing and nobody can do anything about it. There’s a lady I know who can’t get her granddaughter and yet there’s another family who’s here illegally and CPS knows it. They are about to give the child back to the grandmother who’s here illegally in this country. I’d like to know how you can know there are illegals here and your are a state employee and not do anything about it.

To the person who thought the man in Willcox defaced his own property with swastikas and racial slurs, shame on you. You have no idea how hurtful racial slurs are. I’m an African-American and a Democrat. I have received racial slurs, too, and believe me it hurts. Shame on you.

Even though gas prices have dropped each time you go to a discount store or the grocery stores in Sierra Vista or anywhere the prices go up about 75 cents on so many items. We’ve had six things in our bag in the last month or so that have gone up that much. Why is that? Why aren’t prices at the stores comparable with gas prices and what excuses do they have to keep raising prices. They should know people are having hard times. They should be cooperative. Why do people have to go to Tucson to shop because the prices are so much cheaper over there? It shouldn’t be that way. We should be able to shop here.

In our years together we have had a dog and seven rescued cats. We always kept our cats indoors with declawed forepaws, a clean litter box and lots of toys. We protected them from coyotes, javelinas, snakes and ugly men who sport “I kill cats” stickers on their Ford 350s. We have been greatly rewarded with years of love. There is no other way.

" Animal control will tell you that you are responsible for what your animal does. They will enforce the law on barking dogs. Whether you live in the city or "out here" does not matter. Whether it is 5:00 a.m, noon or midnight, your barking dog is disturbing the peace of others. Check on why the animal is barking and take care of the problem. An animal only does what it is ALLOWED to do. "

" Please don't declaw your pets. It is amputation. Most people don't know this, and so they can't be blamed for having declawed pets, but if you need to protect your furniture, please clip the claws or use nail coverings. "

" I would just like to share some frustration about the way people drive in this town. When I am driving down the road at the proper speed I don't want to be looked at like I am an idiot for driving safe and not going 20 miles over the speed limit. I think it is shame that some drivers put others in such danger for the sake of how cool they might look. In the long run you will get to your destination and alive. Sierra Vista is a medium sized town, not a California Freeway. SLOW DOWN. "

barking dog note wrote on Nov 2, 2008 8:44 AM:

" I live on Nevada and received an unsigned note stating my dogs bark all night and keep up my neighbor with their window open. Not mine, they're inside. My window is popen too. Why move out here if you don't like this way of life? It's not just dogs barking, there are coyotes, roosters, geese, donkeys. This is the country where animals are fed early. The dogs help keep away the illegals and wild animals. The note person left a sticky mess for me to clean up. It's ok to impose on me? Check who you're accusing first. "

" I guess I should clarify my perspective. I may not even believe the original commentor, but your line "Clean up and try to look semi-respectable, like many of the riders I see on their way to/from work each day, and you'll successfully ride the streets." seems to condone their actions. You said the assault was illegal, but didn't condemn it. And what of spitting? You don't have to respect someone to not spit on them. This isn't about respect or judging but about people being civilized beings. "

" So you spent hundreds at the Harley Store gleaning your "Biker Outlaw" look and then you are upset when you are treated like one. "

Everyone judges and should wrote on Nov 1, 2008 7:04 AM:

" It is not unacceptable to judge someone based on how they look. That's called survival. It is unacceptable to react against a person in a harmful way based merely on looks, as I did say, but you apparently didn't care to acknowledge. My point was, the dude can probably avoid any negative contact by evaluating how he behaves and looks. People dress and act certain ways for the soul purpose of communicating themselves to others, so ... you reap what you sow. What to reap pleasant encounters, sow a pleasant appearance. "

Biker wrote on Nov 1, 2008 7:01 AM:

" I ride too and haven't noticed any car drivers. driving any worse than ususal.
I find it hard to believe what that one so called biker wrote in OYM. Not that many people even know what happened in Tombstone. You would have to have read the paper, and not that many do that either. "

to to Bike Rider wrote on Oct 31, 2008 2:36 PM:

" No one should be judged like that based on how they look. Whether the writer is exagerating or not, if anything is happening to him on the road because of how he looks on his bike that is absolutely unnacceptable! You're talking about someone's life being endangered because someone doesn't like the vehicle they drive and the clothes they wear while riding it! Shameful. "

Barking Dog Complaint wrote on Oct 31, 2008 10:11 AM:

" Call the Dept. of Animal Control immediately. They will go to the residence and investigate if these dogs are being taken care of. If they are not licesned, they will receive a fine and if the animals are not being given water and shelter during the day, they will take them away. They will also receive a fine for each time they are reprimanded about the barking. If it's after hours, call the police and they too will investigate to get this stopped. Some people should not be dog owners. "

Harry says wrote on Oct 31, 2008 7:01 AM:

" Yeah, 1 National Title in 24 years-there are many major colleges that have never even been to the final four much less winning a national title. That is in addition to all of the PAC 10 titles he won. Plus all of the final fours he went to, plus the elite eights, sweet sixteens, etc etc etc. "

Hey Barking Complainer wrote on Oct 31, 2008 6:39 AM:

" Have you done anything other than post your complaint here? Why don't you go and inform the owners of the barking and what you will do if it doesn't stop. Posting it here doesn't provide anything excpet satisfaction that you complained. Unfortunantly, we do not own these dogs. "

Huh wrote on Oct 31, 2008 6:20 AM:

" Why shame on someone who suggests maybe the person defaced his own property? If you haven't noticed from reading the news, there's a lot of that kind of stuff going around this political season. The shame is on the person who did the damage, not on people who speculate about who did it. I'm sure the police suspect anyone who had access, motive, and means, do you say shame on them? "

to bike rider wrote on Oct 31, 2008 6:13 AM:

" I'd say you're either a liar, or you look like Thug-on-a-Bike. I see many motorcyclists on their way to work every day, and no one looks twice. You may wish you could look/behave any old way and people should just love and accept you, but welcome to the real world. Clean up and try to look semi-respectable, like many of the riders I see on their way to/from work each day, and you'll successfully ride the streets. It's illegal to assault someone, but it's stupid to look like a thug and egg people on, then look for respect. "
