James E. Rutledge, 63, passed away on Oct. 25, 2008, at the University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Lena Rutledge.

He is survived by his wife, Regina, who lived with Jim in Sierra Vista, Ariz.; his daughter, Carly Steffens and her husband, David Gilbert, and their daughter, Antoinette, and son, Joshua, who live in Rialto, Calif.; as well as his aunt, Verlee Viar of Quincy, Ill.

Jim spent most of his life in Southern California, where he graduated from Long Beach State University and was employed as an accountant with Northrop Grumman Corp. until his retirement in 2000.

Jim was a very active volunteer. While in Southern California he served as a member of the board of directors of the Downey Rose Float Association.

After moving to Sierra Vista with Regina five years ago, Jim dedicated himself to the community by his involvement in a number of civic organizations. These included serving as treasurer with Sierra Housing Resource Partners and the Industrial Development Association.

Jim was also a member of the board of directors for Cochise Area Network of Therapeutic Equestrian Resources. When not involved in these other activities he enjoyed being a docent for The Nature Conservancy’s Ramsey Canyon Preserve and the Bureau of Land Management’s San Pedro House.

His gentle spirit, ready humor and willingness to help others will be sorely missed by his friends and the Sierra Vista volunteer community.

There will be a memorial service for Jim at Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 30,   2008.

In lieu of flowers, friends and relatives are encouraged to make memorial gifts to CANTER, The Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering or the American Diabetes Association.
