TUCSON — Behind a 1-2 finish from Jodine Steemers and Bora Leonard, the Buena girls cross country team closed out the regular season on a strong note Wednesday at Canyon del Oro High School.
The Lady Colts finished first among four teams, while the Buena boys finished fourth despite a second-place overall finish from C.J. Metcalf.
Steemers won the girls race in 20:38, 16 seconds better than Leonard in 20:54. Christina Brown was fifth overall in 21:35 and Tasha Saffo rounded out four Colts in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish. Rebecca Roman was 12th in 23:06 and Brittany Gouger was 15th in 23:31.
On the boys side, Metcalf took second in 17:12. The next Buena finisher was at No. 8 where Sean Gearty crossed the finish line in 18:13. Devin Bloom wa 26th in 20:27, Mason Stone was 27th in 20:35 and David Tursi was 28th in 20:35.

Flowing Wells won the boys team race with 26 points followed by Tucson High with 58, CDO with 66 and Buena with 79.
CDO was Buena’s closest competition in the girls race. The Dorados scored 52 points to the Colts’ 26.
Next weekend, the Colts enter the 5A Southern Regional meet at Casa Grande.
Buena volleyball falls to Ironwood Ridge
The Buena volleyball team fell to Ironwood Ridge Tuesday night in Tucson, 25-17, 25-18, 25-18.
Angie Banks led Buena in kills with eight to go along with two aces and Brittany Hollabaugh had seven kills to go along with a team-high four blocks.
Tonight at approximately 6 p.m., the Colts return home trying to avenge an earlier loss this season at Rincon in five sets.
Buena, with a 5-9 record in counting games, currently sits in 17th place in the 5A Division I power point rankings, trailing 6-8 Salpointe Catholic by four points. The top 16 teams make it to the AIA Class 5A Division I state tournament.
