Buena girls volleyball

struggles at Millennium

The Buena High School volleyball team traveled to the Millennium Invitational in Glendale over the weekend and lost all four matches they played. Buena was beaten by Parker, Boulder Creek, Pinnacle and Palo Verde by one point in a truncated rubber game.

Buena head coach Amy Cooper said she was disappointed in her team’s effort, but was pleased by their performance in practice Monday getting ready for tonight’s key region match at Ironwood Ridge.

“We’re looking forward to playing at the level we were at at the Mountain View tournament and the week prior,” Cooper said. “I think fall break kind of threw us for a loop.”

Bisbee volleyball wins home finale

BISBEE — The Puma volleyball team started off a little shaky in its final home game, but pulled out the win against Patagonia, 25-22, 23-25, 25-9, 25-11.

“It was a lot closer than I thought it would be,” Bisbee head coach Joe Farmer said. “But the girls finally kicked it in.”

The Pumas served 88 percent as a team and had a total of 30 kills on the night.

Ashley Silva served 12-12 with five aces and Lisette Flores went 10-10 with four aces. Alyssa Reyna and Taylor Thornby both finished with four aces apiece.

Libero Jenny Arreola had four digs, while Flores had three digs on the night.

Bisbee had no blocks against Patagonia, but Larissa Stack finished with 10 kills, Avalon Lindgren had six and Rose Witlowski had four.

The Puma junior varsity won in three games, 22-25, 25-20, 15-5.

“They started a little shaky,” Farmer said. “Just like the varsity.”

The Bisbee varsity goes into its last game of the regular season against Tombstone on Thursday with a 4-12 record.
