To the Editor:
I thank the Herald/Review for listing the issues I am running on and on which my opponent falls short.
As supervisor, I will have regular office hours in my district and hold town halls in my communities so I can listen to voters and know how they want me to vote. I also will rotate supervisor meetings throughout the county so more residents have the opportunity to attend. Listening to the people is something my opponent has failed to do; from Proposition 400, to Sunsites, from Ocotillo Road to Faria Dairy, my opponent goes the way of special interests, not the residents.
As a teacher, I do research every day, not just by googling, but by actually reading books, professional journals, and other valid sources, not self-serving special interests’ media kits. When fighting incorporation in St. David, I spent numerous hours researching legal cases and the state statutes. My opponent is reticent to do his own research and instead “flies by the seat of his pants” or hires consultants (paid for by special interests or your tax dollars) to do research for him.

I have the foresight and innovation to know we must work now to protect our future. I am the only candidate talking about sustainability, longevity and a vision of what we want our county to look like in 20, 30, 50 years. I have the foresight to know we must decide now how to protect our agri-business and rural areas, and what to do about the increasing price of coal and the impact on our economy. I have the innovative ideas to find creative solutions. Our current regime has been “sitting on its hands” while our neighbors in Gila Bend get the large, solar plant we need. Foresight and care of the environment is not what led to my opponent’s advocacy of an incinerator in Whetstone and a coal-fired power plant in Bowie.
I have experience working with state legislators and national representatives. As a founding member of St. David Residents for Rural Life, I worked with Attorney General Terry Goddard and state Rep. Manny Alvarez on clarification of the state statutes. Currently, I regularly speak with Congresswoman Giffords and our future legislators and corporation commissioners about bringing solar to our county.
I have the qualities needed to represent the residents of District 3: I will work to protect our quality of life and respond to citizens’ concerns.
