Bickford wins SAWA going away

SIERRA VISTA — Tina Bickford could only match her first round, four-over-par performance of Saturday to shoot a 76 at the Pueblo del Sol Country Club on Sunday.

Despite shooting six strokes over her average, Bickford cruised to victory in the 2008 Southeastern Arizona Women’s Amateur.

She won the championship by nine strokes over defending co-champion Kelly Loeb and 10 strokes over Barbara Byrnes, who entered the final round just one shot behind the 22-year-old Bickford.

Kay Walton was low net winner in the first flight with a 153, followed by BB Harvey and Mary Benkert.

The second flight was won by Laura Duncan in the gross portion with a 178,with a tw-stroke edge over Nancy Walter and Corkie Birdsall.

In the second flight, Sue Thorstad’s 147 net score was tops for low overall in the tournament field.

Sonny Williams wound up taking low net in the third flight with a 148 followed by by Marline Stafford and Kay Anderson.

Janet Wietersen was the low gross winner in flight three with a 194 followed by Mary Louise Rucker and Margaret Quarrie.

Sharon Pebley was the low net winner for the flight with a 152 followed by Linda White and Sandy Jones.

The fourth flight was won by Cheryl Kwatkowski with a 206 over Ardis Zander.

Miyoko Welles was the low net winner with a 149 followed by Mary Montoya and Marline Stafford.
