Mountain Lions take Colts

Buena almost had second game

SIERRA VISTA — The Buena volleyball team lost in straight sets to Mountain View Marana High on Tuesday night.

The scores were 18-25, 20-25, 19-25.

The Colts were down 10-1 in the first game before going after a comeback. They came within five points of the Mountain Lions before losing the first game.

Buena came out strong in the second game, and pulled away early. The Colts were up 18-8 after big serves by Chelsea Reineke and Megan Haymore. The Mountain Lions then outscored the Colts 17-2 to take the game.

Despite some strong blocking by the Colts’ front line in the third game, the Mountain Lions scored early and the Colts could not answer. Kills by Britney Hollabaugh scored Buena’s last three points before the Mountain Lions took the game.

Individual stats were not available after the night’s game.

The Buena junior varsity and freshman teams each won in two games Tuesday night.

" a good coach doesnt walk out on a practice just because they are frustrated they show girls that just because you get frustrated you can fight through it and show them that your their coach and no matter what happens you will coach them "

" there are several girls on the softball team that aren't playing due to the politics and lack of organization on the team, that is who the person is referring to- I wouldn't say the "best" aren't playing, some choose not to play. They are good athletes, but you can't please everyone all the time, can you? "

" perhaps rather than just trashing the coach, we could realize some years the kids just aren't going to win. Did anyone talk to the coach, or the athletic director or the prinipal with suggestions? Maybe the girls could look more disciplined at games (the ones who aren't playing) Maybe they need to work in the summer as a team with camps and clinics, etc- perhaps it is hard for the coach to do everything she does and she may want to let someone else coach, she has earned her rest after all these years. " I find it disheartening that any one would publicly ridicule anyone else for doing the job of coaching/teaching at our high school. It is the MOST important and the hardest job to educate our children. We should be showing support to our coaches and teachers for the tough job that they have. If there is an issue, talking with the coach/teacher personally would show more respect to all parties. Throwing insults via the newspaper is ridiculous and immature. " Have any of you other parents ever thought that maybe by you putting the coaching staff down that your kids then also lack trust and confidence in their coaches and as a result they don't listen, they don't improve, and therefore the TEAM falls apart. " It's not that the girls are losing, some years you just don't have the team manpower- it's demoralizing to the team when some girls play the whole time, every game and they make mistakes too, but the team is yelled at. They need some positive reinforcment once in awhile- not being demeaned and told to coach themselves at practice. "

Obviously, as parents, your children are not benefiting from your example. This is their team, support them, good, bad or indifferent. " I have had youth playing sports at BHS for the past 10 years and it never fails that when things get tough and a team is struggling ... parents & kids start the "blame game"..."if the coach would do this or that" and "my child should get to play more" then the team would be winning and all would be perfect. I for one have stood by the coaches and encourage my children to be team players, give it their all supporting the coach and teammates. Hang in there COACHES MANY DO SUPPORT YOU!!! "

I think the team doesn't know what kind of coach she will be on a day to day basis. Inconsistent coaching leads to an inconsistent team. "
