Sook Ja Singletary, known by family and friends as “Sue” died Monday, Sept. 22, 2008, at Life Care Center in Sierra Vista, Ariz.

Sue was born in Seoul, Korea on Jan. 15, 1935, and moved to the United States in 1963. She came to Sierra Vista in 1967 and made it her permanent home in 1999. She had many friends of different cultures and was proficient in Korean, Japanese, English as well as the Russian language.

On Sept. 26, 1974, she married Bill Singletary. Bill also is known as “Terry.”  Through Bill’s work, they traveled and lived in various places throughout the world. Some included Kwajalein, Marshall Islands, Saudi Arabia and Phoenix. They enjoyed and had wonderful times throughout their travels and made many friends. Sue had many hobbies, which included knitting, gardening beautiful flowers, and growing delicious fruits and vegetables. She enjoyed pickling and canning as well as cooking, baking and overfeeding her family and friends. The one thing she became very good at, and would bring a smile to her face, was playing poker.

She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.  Sue was known for being kind, caring and generous to a fault. She was considered a trustworthy friend to many.

Sue and Bill spent many wonderful hours in Tucson with their daughter, Leilani Naterra and their grandchildren, Brandon, Ericka and Sean Naterra. Other survivors include her loving husband, Bill; and another daughter, Marie Singletary of Missouri; and grandson, Josh Gehrke; as well as special niece, Young Ae Lee of Detroit, Mich.

Sue has left us to be with her Lord and memorial services will be held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, in the chapel of Hatfield Funeral Home at 10 a.m.

Arrangements are by the Hatfield Funeral Home.
