Sept. 7
McCain’s new mantra is agent of change, but McCain voted 90 percent of the time with Bush. Karl Rove works for his campaign, as well as other Republicans who worked with Bush. What little McCain has outlined regarding health care and Iraq are basically the same as Bush’s policies. McCain has admitted to having little economic experience and turns to the same Republicans for help such as Phil (we’re a country of whiners) Gramm (McCain said he let him go, but he still works with his campaign). McCain used to be a maverick, but has surrounded himself with the same “Bush” Republicans of the past eight years. Is this your definition of change? Think seriously about your vote this presidential election.
I’m more than troubled by Senator McCain’s vice presidential choice. Considering his age and past health issues, why would he choose someone with as little experience as Sarah Palin when she would be just a “heartbeat away” from the presidency? She’s admitted to having no knowledge of Iraq and doesn’t have much experience with even domestic issues, outside Alaska, much less international issues. She didn’t even own a passport until last year. Being a caring mother is wonderful, but that alone doesn’t qualify you for the vice presidency much less the presidency. I normally vote for the president and not the vice president, but feel that in this election we must consider his vice presidential choice. I question McCain’s judgment and believe he’s put his personal ambition to be president ahead of what’s best for the country by choosing Palin as his running mate.

How about the pungent whiff of hypocrisy wafting from the GOP and their media supporters. Karl Rove raves about Palin’s reformer image and being the former mayor of the second largest city in Alaska (population 9,000). And then he criticizes Obama for considering Tim Kaine, former mayor of Richmond, Va. (population 200,000), former lieutenant governor and now governor of Virginia. Rove says that obviously Obama isn’t serious about this VP choice being capable of being president of the U.S. Bill O’Reilly defends Palin’s right to family privacy concerning the pregnant daughter, then attacks the Spears’ family for not being responsible parents.
I’m from the South, and for the most part we don’t air our dirty laundry in public. Maybe we’re old- fashioned, but we consider it in poor taste. I was amazed to see pregnant Bristol and her boyfriend Levi on stage at the Republican Convention, their immorality passed off as normal even honored before millions around the world. Later the Republicans complained the media talked about the Palin children. Well, who put them out there in our faces? It was all most undignified.
Here’s something to chew on. Jesus of Nazareth was a community organizer while Pontius Pilate was a governor.
I think Sarah Palin was absolutely right when she criticized community organizers. When someone is sick and the community organizers put on a spaghetti dinner to raise funds, they’re being stupid and silly. When community organizers put together a Little League team, they’re being gross. And I really hate it when community organizers try to clean up parks, or save a senior center, or keep a church running. Community organizers are undercutting the free enterprise system. They deny our corporations a chance to make money, which is what keeps the economy rolling and the stock market high. Community organizers work for free, which is why they are the scum of the Earth and why I’m voting for Sarah Palin and John McCain.

I find it very interesting that women always tell the guys that they do not communicate enough. Interestingly though, when the guys try to communicate and ask, in any given situation, “What’s wrong?” they get the “If you truly loved me you would already know” line. So much for communication. And as for the toilet thing the ladies always complain about, I would ask this in return — “How come you all never put the toilet seat UP for US?”
Kudos to OYM for the comments about children being abused. Calling and complaining to OYM is the last thing you should do. If you don’t take any action on reporting these people, then you are as guilty as they are if they are indeed abusing these children. So get off your butt and call someone.
Bee a winner!
When I say “Tombstone” you say “Jackets!” Go black and gold. Go Tombstone YellowJackets. I love THS. We are all proud of our little high school.
The person who told the story of Obama removing the American flag from his aircraft was telling only half of the story as is typical of the right wing media and the Republican Party. The flags that had been on the aircraft were trademarks of North American airlines. Retaining them would have been a trademark violation. The regular image of the flag on the forward part of the fuselage remains.
Once upon a time I was an independent, but after eight years of lies (at least a thousand not to mention the murder of 4,000-plus of our soldiers) and deception plus unbelievable corruption, and then throw in the McCain and Palin lies and corruption, I am voting completely Democrat. What I really don’t understand is that at least 34 percent of the American people don’t care at all about the lies. The Republicans say one thing and do and vote just the opposite. It really is unbelievable. Who is your God?
What does this writer mean by implying that with John McCain being too old to hold the presidential office at the age of 72. I am 79 and a hard worker every day. That is seven years for John McCain to catch up with me in a hard day. He will make it. And then there is the Obama trainee for the commander of chief office. We just cannot have a trainee in that office.
The U.S. government takes in revenue primarily from income taxes, social insurance taxes and excise and sales taxes. Barack Obama will increase taxes in all three categories to pay for the many expensive new government programs he is proposing. Most badly affected will be those people or business owners who earn over $250,000. Most of these people run small businesses which employ the most workers in America. Higher taxes mean higher overhead. The easiest and quickest way to reduce high overhead is to eliminate workers. Higher unemployment ensues and causes a real downturn in the economy. Also, Obama’s designated rich provide most of our investment needed for job and economic growth. Higher taxes automatically deflate investment. Again, more workers lose jobs. In an already weak economy, the last thing you want to do is raise taxes, a prescription for economic suicide.
The hypocrisy of the community is amazing. On the same day that it was stated that we should be respectful of our school teachers Mr. Fillmore denigrates them and has continued to denigrate them for two weeks afterward. This hypocrisy is deplorable.
Many folks think the vice president takes over only if the president dies. According to the 25th Amendment, the president can cede his powers to the vice president if he will be incapacitated. George W. Bush transferred his powers to Vice President Cheney during his two colonoscopy sedations. Also, with the approval of the Cabinet, the vice president may make him or herself acting president if the president becomes incapacitated, for example by a stroke or Alzheimer’s. It could well be for an indefinite period of time. John McCain is an old man. If elected he will be 76 during his first term. I shudder to think Sarah Palin could actually be the leader of the free world.
This is for young and old people who plan to vote. Let’s get real and a little common sense. I understand that our House and Senate are controlled by Democrats. Obama wants a change. All he talks about is a change. Common sense says, yes, we want a change in Washington. I’m an 86-year-old veteran. All of you are here today because people like me and Sen. McCain put our lives on the line for you and voters. I’ve been in World War II and Korea. In my mind, Sen. McCain will always be a hero. God speed him victory. Let’s think American not Republican or Democrat. God bless.
John McCain has not been a maverick for longer than I can remember. After being trashed on a very filthy, personal level by Bush/Rove, etc. in the 2000 election he was soon seen with his arms around the guy. While I respect his conduct as a POW, it’s time after 35 years to consider more than that when looking closely at the man. He’s been a lukewarm senator for Arizona. I find it abominable that he never showed up most recently to vote for the solar bill that would have created thousands of jobs for Arizonans, plus it would have been a boon for the environment. As for his choice of Sarah Palin as the hope of gaining the female vote: She’s no more an advocate for women’s rights than Phyllis Schlafly was in the 1970s.
