We are all very sorry for the loss of the teens a year ago. However, highlighting it on the front page and continuing to give publicity to kids for things such as doing graffiti to honor these kids’ memory is just not right. Let’s move on. Let’s honor the dead, but let’s start looking at the kids out there who are living and start focusing on some of the things they are doing. Just highlighting the kids who committed suicide or died is keeping people in a depressive past state. It’s time to move on with life.

There were comments from a caller in today’s OYM that Jerome Corsi’s book, “Obama Nation” is filled with lies and deceptions. The caller offers his opinion without any supporting facts or statements. The book contains 34 pages of fully annotated footnotes most from sources other than Corsi. Maybe the caller can furnish us with the same amount of documents to support his statements.

For the four teenagers who were killed, I feel truly sorry. But has anyone ever investigated who gave these children alcohol to start with? Think about it, parents. See what your children are doing. It’s going to be blamed on you, too, you know. They had to get that alcohol from somewhere.

A recent poll has revealed that Americans are 60 percent conservative and 36 percent liberal. But some liberals don’t want to admit they are so they call themselves progressives.

Since your newspaper has already stated that the column by Maria Salinas is primarily for the Hispanic readers I highly suggest that the column be printed in Spanish rather than English.

EDITOR’S NOTE: We have not stated the Salinas column is for “Hispanic readers.”

The city has said it wants people to clean up their yards of weeds and that sort of thing. I’m wondering what the city is going to do about the house on the corner of Andrea and Lenzner. The weeds on the left side of that house are as tall as the house. They cut the weeds down some on the side next to Lenzner but otherwise the weeds are as tall as can be and they keep growing and multiplying. Why doesn’t the city do something about it like a citation or a warning? It’s a disgrace to the area.

It is interesting to read that many callers have concerns about the budget override. Last time around most of us were totally misinformed and deceived. Again you can be sure that every means possible means will be used to get it passed. The first time around it was proven to be unnecessary while causing many of us financial woes. So this time and every time in the future please vote “no” on the budget override.

An Aug. 25 an OYM caller who questions global warming stated, “It would be so nice if those 200 scientists would explain to me why the ice in the Arctic has been freezing over more this year than it did in 2007.” A news release from The AP today stated the Arctic Sea ice melt could end up breaking the prior record set in September 2007. To quote portions of the National Snow & Ice Center in Boulder, Colo. statement: “Scientists wondered if last year’s melt was an unusual event or the start of a new and disturbing trend. This year’s results suggest the latter because the ice had recovered a bit more than usual thanks to a somewhat cooler winter. Then this month when the melting rate usually slows, it sped up the melt and sea ice has kicked in another effect long predicted called ‘arctic amplification.’ ” To summarize the long article, it is getting worse and fast.

Last night I had dinner at the Bright Spot in Palominas and was privileged to sit at a table across from a very charming family. Father black, mother white, three adorable children. I saw love, a love strong enough to transcend the pain of bigotry, and beauty, as children are always beautiful. I dream of a day when we will all only see each other as souls, who have no color, because as children of God we all look alike to our father.

To the ignorant drivers out there who think by relinquishing your right of way when it’s really your turn to go through an intersection that you’re being polite, you are holding up traffic. It confuses the issue. Find out what the rules of the road are and follow them. You are holding everyone else up. And another thing — pay attention. Tell the person on the cell phone that you are going to be quiet for a few seconds. Think you can do that?

I follow the On Your Mind comments quite regularly and I can’t say that I was shocked to see the correspondence received by the Herald to continue Ms. West’s column. I, like most Americans, agree that the importance of this topic cannot be overlooked. To me there seemed to be another agenda. It seems we have forgotten about EO 9066, which sent Japanese Americans to internment camps in 1942, or the civil rights problems in the 1960s. Have we forgotten the rhetoric of those journalists who pointed out the differences instead of commonalties, came to the American population under the guise of “informers” instead of “racists”, and who use the same “fear up” tactics West and others use today against Islam? People who kill, or use force, or threaten another people are terrorists and they come from everywhere, and they speak more than just Arabic. It is unfortunate these scare tactics are working in Small Town, USA.

According to my newspaper’s TV schedule there was advertised on a Spanish language channel a notice which in English announced “Without breasts there is no heaven.” If that had been in English for a program on ABC, CBS, NBC or any other major network the outcry would have been nation wide. I guess you can do anything in a foreign language on television.

You are no better than the people that started the mortgage crisis, trying to get something for so little. Move on already. "

Said I could afford up to $130,000,(Iknew i couldn't) long story short, didn't buy- all they cared about was my signature so they could forclose when mortgage went up. Thats why government needs to step in. Unfair practices from the start, got these people into this mess. We help everyone else. "

It is the Clinton administration policies that we feel the effects of today. He did that whole NAFTA and GAT thing that is ruining our economy-not Bush. Why do you think we were so far behind with intel and troops before 911?-The military draw-down of the DEM (Destroyers of Everything Moral. And a communist (Hussein o'BOMA)Mr. NO experience will "fix us"-I fear he will. "

" Your sarcasm is misplaced, Winston/Author/Phil. The liberal Nancy Pelosi led Congress introduced and passed the bill overwhelmingly after Bush withdrew his threat of Veto. Both the Democrats (Sen. Christopher Dodd, chairman of the Senate Banking Committee was the principal author of the bill) who introduced the Bill and the Senate Republicans who supported the bill are to blame. Most of the republicans in the house opposed the bill; however, after key republicans backed the bill, Bush withdrew his veto threat and Senate Republicans dropped their filibuster threat and the Senate went on to pass the legislation.

Now all of Detroit has turned to the Democrats to have them bail out the rest of the failed corporations. The Automakers have no one to blame but themselves. They continue to gouge the US public and wonder why they can't a bigger share of the US automobile market.

It didn't benefit anyone but those who were irresponsible for creating the problem in the first place. NeoCon Fascism has nothing to do with it. It was irresponsible Party politics as usual. "

Some of us have excellent credit, no debt, but we simply can't afford a mortgage. Why not reward us. Instead who benefits? The irresponsible ones. "

" In above comments about the override, the uniformed argument is that "the first time around it was proven to be unnecessary." Until the state approaches adequate funding and / or the federal government fulfils its obligations for unfunded mandates such as IDEA & ESEA, which drain our school funds, overrides will always be a necessary means of trying to maintain the quality education that SVPS has long provided. Districts around the state seek overrides because our legislature has not made quality PUBLIC education a priority.

Less experienced drivers may come to believe they must have the right of way in a given situation, and the next time they may pull out right in front of someone and cause an accident. Please, just follow the rules of the road; it's no place to play the 'oh, no! you first! I insist!' game. It could easily cause accidents. "
