Roy Kleiser Abel, of Lakeside, Ariz., died Thursday, Aug.  28, 2008, at RTA Hospice and Palliative Care in Lakeside surrounded by many members of his family. He was 92.

Roy was born on Nov. 25, 1915, in Vicksburg, Miss., to the late George Horace and Emma Evelyn (Gallaher) Abel. He retired from the U.S. Army as a Signal Corps officer and served his country during World War II and the Korean War. He moved to Arizona from Georgia in June of 1954, some 54 years ago.

Roy is survived by his wife, Dorothy (Dickinson) Abel of Lakeside, Ariz.; three daughters, Dorothy Ellen Rock (William) of Allen, Texas, Mary Joyce Cariaganis (George) of Norfolk, Va., Nancy Elizabeth Majecki of Justin, Texas; six sons, David Roy Abel (Carol) of Snowflake, Ariz., Joseph Eugene Abel (Fran) of Sierra Vista, Ariz., Thomas Martin Abel (Lynn) of Sierra Vista, Paul Marshall Abel of Scottsdale, Ariz., John Raymond Abel (Barbara) of Haslet, Texas, and Robert Leland Abel of Sierra Vista; a brother, James Abel of Lake Charles, La.; a sister, Evie Mae Lee of Farmerville, La.; and 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Trudy Evelyn Abel, in 1945; a son, Gerald Anthony Abel, in 2003; Gerald’s wife, Frances Irene Abel, in 2000; and five brothers, Leland Abel, John Abel, Hollis Abel, Robert Abel and Weslely Abel.

A memorial service will be at noon on Monday, Sept. 8, 2008, at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Sierra Vista. Inurnment will be at the Fort Huachuca National Cemetery in Sierra Vista. Contributions to RTA Hospice and Palliative Care, 1789 W. Commerce Drive, Lakeside AZ 85929 have been suggested by his family.
