Evelyn Ruth Dutton was born Oct. 10, 1912, in Neillsville, Wis., to Ferdinand and Matilda (Kipp) Schultz. She was born into a family of 11 children (four brothers and six sisters). She survived the Spanish Flu epidemic that swept the United States in 1918. She was educated by the Lutheran School System and received state awards for her verbal and written abilities in the German language.
In 1934, Evelyn Schultz met a young, handsome Frank Dutton and after a two-week whirlwind courtship they married on Sept. 26. They were separated by his death on Dec. 14, 1989. Never have two people been more devoted to each other. This loving union produced four children. Her love of the Old West motivated the Dutton family to relocate to Arizona, spending 20 years in Tucson and 40 years in Tombstone.
