July 28

To think Obama knows all about foreign policy and is ready to become this country’s commander-in-chief after his first-ever diplomatic visit to the Middle East and Europe is like me thinking my kid would be ready to compete in the Olympics and win a gold medal after his first swimming lesson.

I am wondering just how much it has cost bin Laden to buy the current leadership in Pakistan? I also wonder if Washington remembers that it was the Taliban under the then leadership of the Mullah Omar who provided bin Laden’s terrorists with training grounds, weapons, explosives and protection while he attacked us twice in Saudi Arabia, our embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, tower two in N.Y. with truck bombs and the USS Cole in harbor in Yemen with a boat bomb. I believe it is time to tell Pakistan to fish or cut bait. We need to get bin Laden and Mullah Omar and the rest of the members of the al-Qaida or just give in to terrorism. I sometimes wish I had no memories.

The political cartoon in the July 27 Herald/Review said it all. Barack Obama is the creation of the mainstream media. The mainstream media has taken an inexperienced, unvetted politician, shielded him from critical analysis, and arrogantly crowned him as president of the United States without being duly elected. The mainstream media has succumbed to its lowest depths and prostituted itself of any claim to honest journalism, in the pursuit of its own political agenda. The mainstream media is now synonymous with dishonest politics.

Thirty-five days ’til we vote. Now we’re all wary of dates that are scary, and this is a big one to note. So be on the rolls so you can go to the polls and vote in the coming primary. We’re birds of a feather all in this together and hoping our numbers will mount. If you stay home and gloat that you don’t want to vote because sadly one vote doesn’t count, then shut up next Jan when an unwanted man can move in to the big house that’s white. Remember to vote in November. Don’t let that college decide! They goofed up before and they’ll do it once more and they’ll scoop us along with the tide. Then would we all drown town by town? or just call out in desperate fright? So, please don’t forget. Have you registered yet? Do you know how far deep we’re in debt?

July 29

Let’s analyze Barack Obama’s circumlocution about Iraq: 1. He opposed the war; 2. He opposed the surge; 3. In the primaries he called for the immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops; 4. Before his recent visit to Iraq, he announced a timetable of 16 months for U.S. withdrawal of troops; 5. During his visit he admitted the surge was successful but disagreed with Gen. Petraeus who said a 16-month timetable would be counterproductive and undo the success of the surge; 6. On his return, Obama now says he still holds to a 16-month timetable but based on conditions on the ground and political stability there; 7. He now agrees to leave U.S. troops in Iraq to train the Iraqi army and protect against any further insurgency. Obama has made a 180-degree turn and is actually in agreement with Petraeus, President Bush and John McCain. If I wasn’t so “politically correct,” I would call it flip-flopping.

Those were credible and worthy observations in Francis McWilliams’ July 29 letter, “Obama doesn’t get satire, and neither does the Muslim culture.” Unlike John McCain who laughs often at himself, Barack Obama seems unable to laugh at himself and appears often in defensive mode. His inexperience shows. Obama’s stern reaction to the New Yorker magazine political caricature of himself and his wife brought home this fact to me. If Obama was as broad minded as he portrays himself, he would have laughed it off and gained political capital from his self-effacing act. His anger surfaced instead and revealed an unappealing Barack Obama.

Anyone who votes for an incumbent, regardless of their party, deserves what they get. We need a change in our representation in Washington and the only way to achieve this is to vote all of these do-nothing lifers out. They are all there for their own benefits and not for their constituents that they are supposed to represent. That includes Pelosi, Reed and all those other freeloaders. Every one in Congress is a high paid loser. President Truman said, “It doesn’t matter how big a ranch ya’ own, or how many cows ya’ brand, the size of your funeral is still gonna to depend on the weather.” When he was offered corporate positions at large salaries, he declined, stating, “You don’t want me. You want the office of the president, and it doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to the American people.” This is the way our Congress feels, their positions are for sale to the highest bidder.

Somehow I don't think voting for someone's "charisma" outweighs him voting against the military GI Bill or all the times he voted against Veterans benefits. I would rather vote for a man of principal like Obama over a charismatic maveric anyday. I will vote for the guy who voted for my benefits not against what I earned. "

Russia has already revealed their hand in how they plan to conduct business for the foreseeable future. What is the response of our candidates to this? Obama wants to cut and run and McCain wants to rattle his sword with no plan to back it up. Neither candidate is prepared for the position...that's real clear to me. "

" Time for a break? What do you expect during an election year man? Obama's going to kick McCain's behind in November. Paris' video was awesome! "Wrinkley white-haired dude"!(LOL). I think we ought to have Obama replace Benjamin Franklin on the $100 bill. That'll be cool! The world is so hectic now. If Obama could just get in office and do a crackdown to get the dissadent biggots of this nation to submit to him we'd live in peace. I love this video. It's a must watch!

Is it time for a break from the Herald wrote on Aug 8, 2008 7:34 AM:

" Nothing but politics for the next several agonizing weeks. Don't you people realize your trivial little two- or three-sentence comments are NOT going to sway anyone? And from the same four or five people, too! Stop already! Say it once and be done with it. I wish the Herald would have a PoliticsOYM so we don't all have to be subjected to this endless quibbling. I just needed to say that. Every four years I want to crawl into a cave for a few months and get away from the endless masses who believe I can't think for myself. "

And one more thing wrote on Aug 8, 2008 7:30 AM:

" ...And when you link or post results where a candidate supposedly "flip-flopped" because they voted for/against one bill, that doesn't prove squat. Maybe the bill had some great or terrible riders attached that affected the vote, that's how it works, right? Earmarks? (I despise earmarks, btw, but it IS the current system). You can't determine if someone has changed something by one bill. You have to look at voting history, trends, and for patterns. "

    A word about flip-flopping wrote on Aug 8, 2008 7:26 AM:

" This statement isn't about a candidate. I just want to say people should quit with the term "flip-flopping". While sometimes (when changing views rather quickly, maybe) it is approprirate, other times it will refer to a candidate, over the course of a decade or more, changing stances. Well heck, I call that learning from experience. I don't want a candidate that will be stubborn in the face of new information or facts, or ideas. I would prefer once that has the flexibility to evolve. Anyone else understand this? "
