To the Editor:
As in previous years, I would like to thank Brenda Sharkey and her wonderful staff at the Holiday Inn Express in Tombstone, for their help and support, of the sixth annual Tombstone Gem & Mineral Show.
Brenda, you, sons Donald, Adam and the rest of your staff are part of what people look forward to experiencing when they visit Tombstone. We had more vendors this year at the show, even though we were forced to put on the entire show outside of the hotel due to changes that the hotel is experiencing.
We had Southwestern rock folk from El Paso and Demming this year, as well as all the Arizonan rock artists and dealers. The vendors had a great time and are helping to plan next year’s show. The show just gets bigger every year.

More thank-yous are in order, especially to Viji Winters, owner of the original Tombstone Mine, Ed Schieffelin’s first mining claim, which gave the town its name. Viji allowed us to put on a special field trip for the show vendors to the famous mine that started the last of the great silver strikes in the Old West.
It was a big hit with the 15 folks who were able to go before opening the show again on Sunday, as people are not normally ever allowed access to this historic mine site property.
A special thanks also to Wayne Chartier and his son Daniel for helping to secure the vertical shaft on the mine site for the first visitors that the Tombstone Mine has seen in many moons.
Smokey the Miner was a real gem, as always, to work with and great help at the show. Cool Jazz, aka Tom Cook and his friend Paul once again played great music for the vendor party.
Thanks are also in order for “T.J.” Cook, who in addition to helping at the shop, provided the PA system with some help from his friend Bryan to give the show continuous music each day of the show.
Also, a big thank you for Lee and Marla at the Tombstone Trolley who again added the gem show to their tour route.
A special thank you is also in order for Greg Witt of the Turquoise Owl in Quartzsite for his help with signs and setting up canopies at this year’s show.
What a great group of people you all are! You are all part of the backbone of this great annual event, which celebrates the original history of the town of Tombstone and of the West.
