Already with the roadside campaign signs. We have been through two years of unrelenting political campaigning and now in addition we have four months of political littering. Yes, littering, because not only do these signs ruin the view from our area while driving, but you and I both know a lot will be left where they are long after the elections are over. Maybe if it were possible the local government could charge rent for the space each sign requires. Not only would they make money, you could bet those signs wouldn’t go up as early as they do and they certainly would be removed in a timely manner.

Isn’t it amazing how many things in the Bible apply to current events? For example the King James version, Isaiah 32:5 — The vile person shall no more be called liberal nor the churl said to be bountiful; Isaiah 32:6 — For the vile person will speak villainy, and his heart will work iniquity, to practice hypocrisy; and Isaiah 8 — But the liberal devises liberal things and by liberal things he shall stand. Do you think these words apply to our politicians today and our media?

Why do hybrid electric cars have energy-wasting incandescent bulbs instead of LEDs?

You are a nation of whiners. If any of you had to live like the “can-man,” you’d know what you are. If any of you had the heart to look out at the world. If any of you ever started to live honestly all the time — up and down the line. If any of you knew just exactly what a hard time is like he does (and for such a long time while enduring life with you). I’m going to tweak a Bob Dylan song a little: “… I wish that for just one time you could stand inside his shoes — then you’d know what a drag it is to see you …” You are a nation of whiners.

This is regarding the Mary Jo Ballator’s recent letter to the editor. According to a number of sources in the judiciary, there are no grounds for the impeachment of George Bush. It’s been established that information gleaned from a variety of intelligence sources at the time, including ours and others, if you waive the hyperbole, there was no lie hoisted on the American public, just bad intelligence. I’d be more concerned about the Democratic led Congress that has an approval rating of less than half of that of the president. Your concern is misplaced.

Government sure loves its orange jumpsuit free labor force. So everyone, do your patriotic duty and go do some crimes and get caught.

Barack Obama has called for the redistribution of wealth to pay for his numerous government-paid proposals. The redistribution of wealth is a true Marxist principle, widely advanced by socialists. For this reason, crowds of European socialists welcomed Obama with wide open arms because they view him as a true socialist. It was no accident that the National Journal named Obama the most liberal senator in the U.S. Senate. We should remember the term liberal is synonymous with the word socialist. Liberals don’t want to be called socialists because socialist is a dirty word in America. But the bottom line is Obama is a socialist, and he felt right at home in socialist Europe.

How does John McCain get away with being so old and angry? His gaffes are becoming as famous as Bush’s. Yeah he would make a great commander in chief if you want eternal war. He still can’t get over Vietnam and he won’t give up on Iraq. Not even his fellow Republicans trust him. Sen. Thad Cochran, a Mississippi Republican, said of Mr. McCain: “The thought of his being president sends a cold chill down my spine.” Sen. Pete Domenici, a New Mexican Republican, told Newsweek in 2000: “I decided I didn’t want this guy anywhere near a trigger.” Anyone who would vote for this guy has to be very rich or very stupid. Maybe both. They say we don’t know enough about Obama. Well, we know way too much about McCain. And he is terrible.

This is in response to a letter from Don Kesler regards Sierra Vista’s forgotten street. Thank you, Don, for writing about North Avenue, on the West End of the city. I, too, have been concerned about the city’s neglect of the street and its sidewalks. It is time to do something about the lack of handicap ramps on the sidewalks at each intersection. Many other streets have been upgraded to include ramps, but not on North Avenue. I have observed people in wheelchairs and mothers pushing baby strollers having to walk in the street because of the lack of ramps. I have brought it to the attention of council members and city street department staff. They give the excuse of no money, and they’re waiting for some grant to fund it. South Carmichael Avenue has recently been upgraded, and streets in Fry have been improved. Now it’s time for North Avenue to receive the attention it so desperately needs.

To the person who wrote in stating that it is not a parent’s job to raise their children. Perhaps you need to take parenting classes and learn how to raise your children. It is not up to teachers, law enforcement, etc. to raise them. And what a terrible description you gave about child birth “All we do is pump them out.” Sounds like you shouldn’t have children at all. You need to take responsibility for the children you gave birth to, teach them to respect their elders, teach them manners (which few children seem to have these days) take them to church, give them chores to do to teach them life is not a free ride and to take schooling seriously and most of all love and attention. Oh! By the way, if you are still of child bearing age, stop having children. Sounds like you just don’t want to be bothered by them.

I agree with candidate Tim Bee running for Congress when he says he would rather fight the terrorists in Baghdad than in Bisbee or Benson. He is absolutely right. He would be the better candidate of the two. Gabrielle Giffords may have a long resume in the paper, half a page of all she’s done and all she hopes to do, etc., etc. But Tim Bee is the better of the two. I believe he can make a good change and not go with the status quo. My vote is for Tim Bee.

Great article on the American Cancer Society. I can understand local transportation help, etc. might not be part of the current mission, but it could be easily added. All the ACS leadership has to do is get the CEO’s and the entire leadership’s compensation in line with other peer charitable organizations. Even more shocking is the 31.4 percent of every donation going to administrative and fundraising costs, which Charity Navigator points to as being bloated. If these expenses could be cut by just 10 percent, this would free up more than $94 million for other uses. It might make sense to shift some of your ACS contributions to Dr. McCarthy office’s efforts. Even if you do not want to support local efforts, the 31.4 percent administrative and fundraising cost subtracted from every donation is outrageous and I would urge everyone to voice their concerns to the American Cancer Society.

“Frankly, I’m shocked!” Mute button. “Shocked? We’re shocked! … Shocked you even get it, pal!”

To the person in the July 16 OYM who claimed it’s not her responsibility to raise her kids, she says she just pumps them out for the money and it’s up to educators and law enforcement to raise them. What a despicable, low-life individual you are, not to mention lazy. You should be neutered, forced to obtain a job and cut off from any kind of financial assistance. Your kids should be placed for adoption.

As to the High Knoll area getting all washed out during the rains, these people live there for a reason. They don’t want to pay county taxes and everything else to pay for maintained roads. They chose to live there. They just have to deal with what happens. It’s their choice.
