LAKE HAVASU CITY — The long drive, the blistering heat and the defending National Baseball Congress champions proved to be too much for the Bisbee Copper Kings as they dropped the first two games of their series at Lake Havasu Friday night.
The Havasu Heat defeated starting pitcher Jason Kimzey and the Kings Friday night 7-2 in the opener and hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth to win the second game on account of the mercy rule, 12-2.
“I was really disappointed in our effort,” Bisbee manager Butch Hammett said. “We didn’t show up ready to play ball.”
Between the two games the Kings managed just eight hits with six of those coming off the bats of Justin Wright and Sterling Schuller.
