On Your Mind

May 30

I don’t know who is responsible or how it was accomplished, but my hat is off to whoever was responsible for eliminating the hundreds of pigeons that hung out at the corner of Coronado (Drive) and Gulf Links Road. I often wondered about what a mess   the people that lived there had to deal with. Thank  you.

May 31

Americans, our basic freedoms and liberties are under attack, right now, by an even more dangerous form of empire which is slowly enslaving us-— an empire bent on dictatorial power, private armies, profit-based wars, and control of the world’s biggest oil reserves. Did you know all your major TV networks, radio stations, and newspapers are owned by a handful of government-contract corporations? This is a propaganda machine. When the government decides what the important stories are, or what spin should be applied to our daily news, that’s the classic definition of propaganda. And they’re purposely leaving out most of the real news that you, as an American citizen, must have to make informed decisions. Our nation is being held hostage. Even the ballot box is not safe. Google black box voting or vote fraud or infowars. A month before the Revolutionary War, Patrick Henry said: “They tell us, sir, that we are weak, unable to cope with so formidable an adversary. But when shall we be stronger? Will it be next week, or next year?” Americans! Democracy and freedom are at stake! Turn off the TV, get high-speed Internet and do your homework! Find out what an RSS feed reader is, then use one to get news from better sources than your government’s official spin jockeys.

Barack Obama remains an unvetted candidate for the highest elected office in the nation. A vast segment of the mainstream media, intent on promoting Obama for president, remains silent on his suspicious friendships, connections and associations. For example, Obama’s 20-year friendship with the man he called his mentor, the America-hating racist the Rev. Jeremiah Wright! His controversial connection with Tony Rezko, the Chicago real estate magnate who is on trial for political corruption! His questionable political association with George Soros, the shady multi-billionaire who bankrolls such scurrilous political organizations, such as MoveOn.Org! Who then is the real Barack Obama?

Go to AmericanSolutions.com and sign the petition to “Drill Here. Drill Now. Pay Less.” This petition will be sent to members of Congress and to the White House as a warning we, the American people, have had enough with the outlandish gas prices. It is also a message to Democrats and fanatical environmentalists, who for the past 25 years or more have blocked our nation from building more nuclear power plants and oil refineries and drilling more offshore and Alaskan oil. We want to be free of dependence on foreign oil. We can do all of the above with new technology we now have and not jeopardize our environment. The scare tactics about global warming are now refuted by highly reputable scientists. Much of the data on global warming is based on computer models which many scientists find unreliable. Evidence in the Antarctic shows we actually may be experiencing global cooling. Which could explain the record cold weather and snow much of the nation experienced this past winter. Go to AmericanSolutions.com and sign up.

I recently moved to an apartment in Huachuca City. I assumed I could use the city parks to exercise my dog. To my surprise, dogs are not allowed in either of the two park areas. Wonder why that is so? Neither park appears used much. They are not nice with dying trees; one has graffiti that has been there for some time. Both are unkempt as well as other city property. The roses in front of the town hall are dying. Roses need water and care to survive. There is a nice ball field that appears no one is allowed to use either. I will move back to Sierra Vista as soon as I can afford another move.

The public generally sees the illegal problem as “they are the ones who are trashing our deserts and leaving trash out there.” I’ve worked for and with the Border Patrol for a long time; here’s what really happens. When the Border Patrol catches a group of illegals they make them drop everything they have including backpacks, bottles, bags, everything. They leave everything on the ground in the desert. Then it blows around and looks like crap. The Border Patrol is responsible for 95 percent of that trash. They could pick it up. If they would carry trash bags or make the illegals drop their stuff in bags and haul it off and dump it properly the desert wouldn’t look near like it does. Yes, the illegals are responsible for a miniscule amount of the trash, but the Border Patrol is responsible for the great majority of it.

This whole delegate uproar with Michigan and Florida just proves how bastardized our political system has become. The Electoral College needs to go away. The whole electoral process is flawed and antiquated. Just do what the people say. The popular vote is the only one that should count.

JUNE 1

Well, here it is, the first of June. The Democratic primary season has been raging for the better part of two years. They have spent over $400 million in advertising and publicity. They figure that 40 million voters have expressed their opinion. So what does it come down to? The final decision of a couple hundred superdelegates. The Democrats are campaigning on “change” but should they win the White House, will the administration be just as decisive as their campaign? Can we afford to wait eight years for solutions to our Social Security and medical insurance problems? The liberal system of ruling seems to be by consensus, will they need to get opinion polls before they can pass a law? I guess we will have to wait and see.

After reading in today’s newspaper about the hardship that the people in Myanmar are experiencing by their tyrant military dictatorship I’d like to say it’s an atrocity, a disgrace, and a shame by a global standard. It’s utterly disgusting to see there is not one country in the world, including the U.S., that intervenes and bears down on that regime and does something for those poor people who are starving to death. Should Myanmar hold oil reserves like Kuwait, rest assured that the U.S. would be there with aircraft carriers and military troops ready to invade that country to try to take over and help the people. But the fact they are living off nothing right now, there’s not one country trying to make an effort to stand on their behalf. It’s a shame and a disgrace.

I’d like to respond to the letter to the editor by Melissa Buckley, “Fifth grade isn’t the place for politics.” I totally agree with her well-written letter. Those student letters also frustrated and angered me that 10-year-old students would be instructed to write letters about something they know nothing about. They know nothing about Barack Obama or about politics of the world. Let them stick with subjects they can absorb like science, math and reading. I totally agree when she says the school and the teacher are abusing their positions of authority to indoctrinate those students with the teacher’s political preferences. It was a sad situation, and I hope it doesn’t happen again. It reminded me of the time when the students in Naco were instructed to write letters against Roger Barnett and his brother, writing the opinions of their parents and the school system. Let kids be kids.

JUNE 2

I was happy to see the sheriff’s department is getting three motorcycle deputies. I see all the complaining about following too closely on Highway 92. I travel that roadway. I drive my SUV in the left lane and try to stay 10 mph under the speed limit. I am trying to be extra careful because I am using my cell phone to talk to my two high-schoolers about what they are doing in school. I have to talk to my girlfriends while driving so I can concentrate on shopping after dinner after I ask my husband what he wants on the cell phone. I stay in the left lane so cars can enter from the side streets. Men whiz passed me after following so closely they scare me, and then they give me dirty looks and one even made a bad gesture. So, I hope those new motorcycles can stop following too-closers.

Thirty-thousand (still) sealed “write-in” ballots and Barack Obama still picks up delegates even though his name was not on the ballot. Who do these Democrats think they are? And then there’s McCain behaving like a street-punk trying to bait Obama into a street fight! And let me tell you people something else. “Leaving the scene of an accident” needs to define “accident,” and especially an accident (alleged) that occurred during the time of human-pilgrimage to our satellite, the moon. Senator Kennedy has continuously been at public service through all these years when he quite obviously did not have to. By all rights, when he had to watch all of his brothers cut down, he could have told us all to “get lost.” Yet he still works for people of this continent and works to take care that our conduct with the world is responsible.

We are in a life and death struggle with Muslim terrorists who want to kill every non-Muslim in the world. Yet somehow the press’s hate of George Bush overrides their patriotism in trying to keep the American people supporting a war which is truly necessary. You had a headline in Sunday’s newspaper, “U.S.-Iraq deaths are down,” but then you had to add, “but for how long?” taking good news and turning it into a question which implies bad news and shows a distinct disregard for how this war is going to come out. May God help us all.

In Michigan a mistake was corrected by an unprecedented injustice of arbitrarily taking delegates from one candidate, Hillary, and giving them to another, Obama. In addition to taking four of Hillary’s delegates Obama took 55 delegates he did not earn from the voters. For political advantage at another state Obama voluntarily took his name off the Michigan ballot before voting took place. Again Obama used bad judgment for political gain just like he used the Rev. Wright. Currently, for additional political gain, Obama dropped his membership to Wright’s church. If these are indications of Obama’s vision of how to change Washington and how to take care of people’s problems, it is not what this country needs.

The Herald reported June 2 that the Mexican Consulate will be holding a film festival in Bisbee June 26-29. Several months ago Presidente Calderon directed the consulates to step up its brain washing of American citizens with programs designed to win the sympathy of the American people for the invasion of illegals and Mexicans. As an American citizen, I resent the interference of the Mexican government in its attempt to minimize our laws. As an American citizen I resent these groups, i.e. Citizens for Border Solutions and Humane Border Solutions, for co-sponsoring these events. Will they be held liable for crimes committed? Is taxpayer money used to present these films? As an American citizen, I resent Bisbee being the county seat for the working citizens of Cochise County. Using a phrase from Obama, change and hope — change the county seat to SV and hope that Bisbee sinks into oblivion.

I want to acknowledge OYM works! I called in about all the dog droppings in the Richmond development off Avenida Cochise and Coronado, and since it appeared our neighborhood has improved. For a week after there was no new poop. Before that it took half dozen bags to clean up. Today, just one. Unfortunately, there has been poop again, but at least not on the sidewalk and not as much. Please people, take pride in you area and keep it clean (and if it’s not your area, go away.) Now to the Marlboro-lite man — our neighborhood is not an ashtray. Also, folks, keep basketball stands off the sidewalk. Next project, weed abatement. Thanks to all those who are doing their part keeping our neighborhood clean.

JUNE 3

A small block announcing local gas and diesel prices would probably be a hit with local residents.

This is a follow up to a June 2 OYM, it referred to the Waste Management pick-up — or lack of — for those whose pick up is Mondays and Thursdays, not only did they lose one pick up during the last holiday, they will also have only one pick up each week during Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year, in Sierra Vista. That is a total of five one-week pick-ups by Waste Management. I called a number on the bill we received and got their customer service. I asked for a refund for the one day that I was not picked up and was told no. I asked for a supervisor. After some haggling, I was told I would receive a $2.50 credit for that week based upon two pick-ups per week at $5 and would see it on my next bill. I was also told I would have to call each time to receive credit.

To the person who called me “ignorant” in regards to the Sen. Obama lack of respect issue. I admit it was not the Pledge of Allegiance that he was disrespecting but the National Anthem. The first publication to print this picture made the error and later amended it. And yes he did lead the Senate in the pledge. And for other “ignorant” persons a salute is not just a military raising of the hand to the hat. It is any “gesture of greeting and respect.” “An act of greeting and salutation.” “An act or gesture of welcome, honor or courteous recognition” (Internet dictionary) Thus putting the hand over the heart, or removing your hat and standing at attention becomes a form of saluting. So why would a man who is seeking to be the leader of this country refuse the simple act of showing respect and honor for the National Anthem?

JUNE 4

Obviously the three friends who griped about the Bisbee fifth-graders are staunch Republicans with a typical paranoia that goes along with that belief. As to the war on terrorism, if anybody would realize, Saddam Hussein did not attack America; we attacked them. Al Qaeda attacked America. So the war in Iraq is totally unjustified. As to the global warming, if you want to stick you head in the sand and believe it’s not happening, go ahead. I’d like my grandchildren to have a world to see.

He wouldn't say no to their pay raise like Bush did. I think you are confused between tollerance and advocacy. Bob Barr is the only true Conservative. He will spend US money on US problems. The fact that Obama supports the murder of 3 million unborn children a year, including partial birth abortion doesn't give us much hope either. The number of unborn children who are murdered EVERY DAY through abortion is more (5,000) than the number of U.S. troops killed in Iraq for the WHOLE WAR. "

" Well, in the 1984 election Jimmy Carter asked Russia, our cold war foe, to help him get Walter Mondale elected. I wonder if he is working with Hamas and Al Qaida and Hugo Chavez to help get Barack Hussein elected. I have heard these groups do support Obama. "

" I agree Pauly. I have come across their paths myself. This is NOT something the Border Patrol is causing. This is all propaganda for someone who wants to push environmentalism and Illegal immigration at the same time without having to face and explain the inconsistancies of supporting both. "

" I know of someone who had illegals on their property in Palominas. They called the BP and they came out. The illegals had four wheelers along with backpacks full of stuff. Can you guess which of these items the BP took with them? Answer: The illegals and the four wheelers and left their backpacks. Suprised? I think not! "

" ... if one driver is doing something stupid and driving unwisely, then all others should do likewise, because ... why? "that'll show 'em!" or something? That's really stupid. There's no excuse to tale gate. If the person in front of you is being stupid, then that's the problem of that person and/or the police. In fact, another driver being dumb should make you drive MORE carefully, not less. But go ahead Mr. Talegater, when you rear-end Ms. Slow-Driving-Cellphone-Talker, have fun explaining to the police that she deserved it for driving too slow and talking on the phone. "

" Um, if there were no illegals, there would be no BP telling them to drop their trash. Duh. Your argument is like saying people are in prison because those pesky police keep arresting people for committing crimes. True, the prisons would be empty if the police didn't interfere with criminal activity! I don't think it's reasonable to blame the police, or BP, for criminal activity or for the negative fallout of that activity. That blame lies only on the people involved in illegal behavior. "

" Oh that one cracks me up. The BP is the problem with the trashing of our land not the illegals who brought it with them. LOL I agree the BP maybe should haul trailers to collect whatever but they are not the problem. "
