Retired Sgt. 1st Class Robert E. Kohlman, 60, formerly of Dauphin, Pa., and a resident of Sierra Vista, Ariz., from 1977 until 2004, passed away May 21, 2008, in Connecticut from Alzheimer’s.

Bob graduated with the 1966 class of Milton Hershey High School, Hershey, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Kohlman and Anna Kohlman Shutt.

He is survived by sister Anne (Pat) Conetta of Meriden, Conn.; brother, Frank (Belva) Kohlman of Pittsburgh, Pa., and nieces, Lesli (Sam) Stevens, Middletown, Conn., Patricia (Peter) Campbell, Meriden, Conn., Robin (Michael) Dublin, of Hauston, Pa.; Erin, a great-niece; former spouse, Patricia Wick, and stepsons, Andrew and John Saenz, of Sierra Vista; and best friend, Richard Klucsarits, also of Sierra Vista.

Robert was a Vietnam veteran, who served more than 20 years in the U.S. Army, as basic training drill sergeant, supply sergeant, and more than 10 of those years as a professional Equal Opportunity staff officer at various stateside and overseas assignments, including multiple tours in Germany, and tours in Fort Huachuca, Ariz.; Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.; and Fort Campbell,    Ky.

Upon retirement from the Army he was employed as a property manager by government contractors, serving Fort Huachuca, Ariz., and Fort Sill, Okla. Employers included Pan Am World Services, Johnson Controls Inc., Crown Management Services, Brown & Root Inc., SKE Support Services Inc., and ORI Services Inc.

Robert enjoyed the outdoors, racquetball, bicycling, travel, comedy clubs, stage plays and playing penny-ante poker.

His was a life of service and fair treatment for others. The many friends he made will miss him.

Services, with military honor guard will be held at Fort Huachuca at the Old Post Cemetery at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008.

Memorials may be made in Bob’s name to the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery Foundation (SAVMCF), 1300 Buffalo Soldier Trail, Sierra Vista AZ 85635 or e-mail jlarson@azdvs.gov.

A lead vehicle will depart the Widows’ Center (at front gate area) at 9:30 a.m. for attendees unfamiliar with the old Post Cemetery location. For vehicles not currently registered on Fort Huachuca, it is recommended that a temporary pass be acquired from the Military Police checkpoint prior to this time.
