SIERRA VISTA — Recent Cochise College graduate and former Buena High School student Cedric Hill is continuing to make his mark in the world of natural bodybuilding.

Hill, a 20-year-old who graduated on Friday, recently qualified for the Amateur Bodybuilding Assocation Team USA and International Forever Natural Bodybuilding Championships.

The event will be held on Oct. 4 in Venice, Calif., and it is one Hill is attempting to earn enough money for in order to compete. On April 26 at Flowing Wells High School in Tucson, Hill won the  Southwestern USA and Tucson Muscle Classic Forever Natural competition.

The 5-foot-11 Hill won his tall class, then beat the short and medium classes to win the overall competition.

“I wasn’t really expecting it,” Hill said. “I knew I’d do well, but not this well. I did all the mandatory poses.”

Hill was the last bodybuilder standing out of 26 competitors.

“It’s a pretty big accomplishment,” Hill said. “I’m going to finish school in the fall. I’m moving to Tempe, I’m going to school at ASU.”

Hill, who was born in Berlin, Germany and raised in Sierra Vista, is a Christian. His father, Edward Hill, is a retired military man.

“I just want to Thank God for everything,” Hill said.

Hill got into bodybuilding in part due to his friend, Josh Monroe, who he knew since middle school.

In March of 2006, Monroe died of cancer at the age of 19.

“He pushed me to do anything I put my mind to,” Hill said.

It was a nice rebound from March 16 at the Copper Classic in Sierra Vista.

Hill, who had won in the light heavyweight class last year, did not make it through his division this year. In 2006, Hill won in the teenage category in the Copper Classic.

Hill, who will turn 21 on May 26, has his diet vary but he normally eats rice and potatoes in his first two or three meals, increasing his protein the last three meals throughout the day.

He does 12 to 15 repititions of bench presses, squats, leg presses and other workouts throught the day.

If Hill can make it to compete in Venice, he would have to finish as one of the top five natural bodybuilders in order to advance to the next level. It is a lofty one, the International Natural Bodybuilding Association Natural Olympia XI.

That competition is on Nov. 8 in San Francisco.
