Published/Last Modified on Thursday, May 15, 2008 - 05:29:58 am MST

The Huachuca Art Association’s Open Judged Show “Colors of Spring” at the Mall of Sierra Vista was a success.

It is amazing how many talented people live in this community. First-prize in oil and “Best of Show” was won by Liz Horning, born in Massachusetts.

She studied art in Italy and later worked as an art teacher in New Hampshire. She moved to Phoenix and worked as a decorative artist, illustrator, advertising artist and art director. She later joined the Phoenix Art Group and started fulltime painting. Her work is known nationwide. She later moved to Scottsdale where she still is represented at the May/Danela Gallery, in 2002, she moved to Sierra Vista and all here are lucky to enjoy her talent.

The theme for the May Show is the “Colors of Spring.” The show is being co-chaired by Edna Fehling, Edie Marion and Trilby Arnold.

The judge for the Spring Judged Show is Charles Thomas. Thomas began his art career as a graphic designer 21 years ago. He spent 12 years as a sought-after commercial artist doing work for major corporate clients across the United States before devoting his energies full time to fine art in 1998. Today, he concentrates on his fine art capturing the alluring beauty of the American West. His work has been widely published and also has been exhibited by the Society of Illustrators Annual of American Illustration, the Oil Painters of America in their National Juried Exhibition, and by the Scottsdale Artist’s School, in the 2003 Best and Brightest Show.

The show at the mall will close on Friday and reopen Saturday at the HAA Gallery on 3818 Astro St., south of Highway 92. On Saturday, from 4 to 6 p.m. will be the Gala Reception and Rewards Ceremony at the HAA Gallery. This will be a catered affair.

The show will run till the end of May. The gallery is open Thursday to Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For information, call 378-2493.
