A worthy effort to spend stimulus money on

Published/Last Modified on Friday, May 09, 2008 - 05:25:08 am MST

To the Editor:

In the near future, most of us will be receiving a check from the federal government as part of the economic stimulus program. Since my wife, Bette, and I have cut back on our recent charitable contributions, due to the current high cost of living, we have decided that we will use part of the monies we will be receiving for a charitable contribution. We are sending the amount we have allocated to help with the Rotary-sponsored Project Graduation. As a former Rotary member and volunteer for this project, I believe it is one of the finest programs that our Sierra Vista Rotary clubs have undertaken for many years and gives a great and safe send-off to our high school graduates.

I don’t know how much stimulus this will be for our economy, but I know it will benefit a lot of lives in our community. So if you decide to join us, please send your contribution to Project Graduation, P.O. Box 581, Sierra Vista AZ 85636.

" I seem to remember recent warnings from consumer groups that recipients of this welfare move should beware scammers who will pop up everywhere to figure out a way to re-direct the government give-away ('stimulus rebates') checks to their own pockets. Surely this couldn't be one of those, could it? "

" Great idea Rusty. I wish we had more retired folks in this community who feel and act the way you do. "
