May 19, 1912 – April 25, 2008

Jean was born May 19, 1912, in Milwaukee, Wis., the only child of Morrow Lewis Embrey and Lillian Evangeline Webb Embrey. She graduated from Appleton (Wis.) Senior High School in 1929, and attended Milwaukee School of Nursing from 1929 to 1932. She served in the Army Nurses Corps in England and France during World War II.

She met and married Ellis Knowlton Reiber in June 1946 in Lawton, Okla. During their marriage of 45 years, the couple had two children, Julia Claire Reiber Jones of Sierra Vista, Ariz., and Mark Lewis Reiber, who lives in Everett, Wash. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, William Jones, David Jones and Steven Reiber.

Jean was known and loved by all who met her. She and her family traveled the world, and she celebrated every day. Upon arriving in Sierra Vista in January 1966, she declared their travels over. She frequently volunteered her time at veterans and survivor’s groups, often knitting and crocheting items of clothing for those in need. She was a voracious reader and passed this passion on to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed crosswords and double acrostic puzzles, from the simple to the complex, all of her life. She also enjoyed classical music, especially opera and Viennese waltzes.

She was preceded in death by her husband in August 1991. She passed away quietly on April 25, 2008, at Hacienda Care Center after a short illness.

Services will be held at the Fort Huachuca Old Post Military Cemetery, Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 10 a.m.

Those friends wishing to attend the services and wanting to join the funeral procession may meet in the parking lot of the Widows Support Center at 9:30 a.m.

Hatfield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
