Is Mr. (Barack) Obama’s spending on his campaign a sign as to how he will spend in the White House?

I, for one, commend Bisbee High School for making condoms available to young people. This is a time when they are all experimenting with sex. Even back in the old days when everybody else denied it was going on we all knew it was a lie. Everybody was doing it. They are just trying to keep people safe and healthy. They don’t condone it. Get your heads out of the sand, people.
When a Yankee soldier asked a Confederate dirt farmer why he was fighting, the reply was, “Because you are down here.” That’s the same reason the insurgents in Iraq are fighting us. Let all the old warmongers who think this war is so wonderful go and fight it and bring our troops home now.
I’m a lawyer practicing in Cochise County and I’m sick and tired of reading all the criticism of County Attorney Ed Rheinheimer in this column. These are comments made by people who obviously have no idea what the job of county attorney requires and have very strong opinions to combine with their ignorance. I can’t speak for every attorney in the county but all the ones I’ve discussed this with believe Rheinheimer has done a fantastic job as county attorney. This includes members of his own staff as well as public defenders and private practitioners. There may be one or two who gripes about him because they don’t get their way in a particular case, but overall he has done a great job in what is probably the most difficult position in the county. He has my support and the support of the entire legal community. I hope he gets the opportunity to continue to do the good work he has done.
All over the city there are responsible pet owners and irresponsible pet owners. What’s sad is when the responsible pet owners have to pay for the mistakes that the irresponsible pet owners make. A friend of mine who is a responsible pet owner was cited for having his pets loose when it was actually proven and even in the police report that someone else had let his animals out. But because of a person making a complaint who was caught lying after he swore an oath to tell the truth my friend was found guilty and had to pay. The laws pertaining to animals in Sierra Vista need to be changed or adjusted a little bit. If you prove you are a responsible pet owner and you have done everything you can to control your pets but somebody lets them out you shouldn’t be held responsible.

I would like to congratulate Brandi Milloy for overall doing a great job representing Sierra Vista on the Oprah show (“Oprah’s Big Give”). However, I was disappointed when she was asked in the morning show on the radio station 100.9 what she would do with her money and she mentioned she will be traveling to Africa. I will credit her that she mentioned she intends to continue giving and give to the Sierra Vista community, but why is she jumping on the celebrity bandwagon to go to Africa. My opinion is that all these celebrities want to go to Africa and help the people of Africa is great, but there are a lot of issues and problems in America especially in Sierra Vista that need attention. We, as Americans, should fix our “backyard” before trying to help fix another’s. With the new monetary resources that Ms. Milloy has, I would have liked to hear that she would do something for the young people in Sierra Vista. I always hear that there is not much for our teens to do. Perhaps because of this we are seeing so many young people in trouble.
So, BHS (Bisbee High School) is handing out condoms to kids. I wonder if BHS is going to provide a hotel room to use those condoms in, too, or if they’re going to allow the young girls to be pressured into their two-minute first sexual experience in the back seat of a cheap car. Most of the time it’s the guy pressuring the reluctant girl into her first experience, one she’ll later regret. I’m surprised that liberals, claiming to be for women’s rights, give the men just the tool they need to pressure reluctant young girls into sex. In this, girls are looking for an emotional connection; guys want to be gratified and will say anything to reach that end. The girls can no longer say “well we don’t have a condom” and the pressure is now greater to “put out.” Young girls be sure to thank BHS for this first time experience compliments of the Bisbee taxpayers.
Tombstone High (School) junior Amanda Ortiz represents herself and school well. It pleases me to see how well this young lady can express her thoughts. Agree or disagree with Ortiz, you have to admit she says what’s on her mind and says it well. Tombstone High School should be very proud. It would appear they have chosen to invest in providing sound academics and critical thinking skills, instead of opting for the less expensive and easier attained condoms, like other local high schools.
When you go to the animal shelter for a puppy addition to your family, please remember that cute tiny lab puppies grow fast to become huge dogs that are hopefully obedience trained because that breed is naturally a family treasure and friendly to all. Big black dogs are often returned to shelters only because they’re big, and are hard to place only because they are big; Size is a poor reason to refuse a dog when you consider the many benefits of strength, protection, love and fun with a big black Labrador retriever. Woof, woof.
I wonder how many people, who complain about our U.S. government, write to their congressmen and senators and express their feelings. Writing into the newspaper is fine, but how many of our elected officials actually see what you are complaining about. Here are a couple of things folks need to know and to write their elected officials about: Did you know that Congress took a nice COLA of $258.33 per month and everyone else got $24 a month. Did you know that: Congress is spending over a billion dollars a week from our Social Security Trust Fund? That money is supposed to be locked away for the retirement of senior citizens, not spent on pork barrel programs. This is why Social Security may be broke in a few years. So folks, why don’t you write, e-mail, call or fax your congressmen and senators and tell them to stop these practices. If you don’t know addresses or phone numbers, e-mail addresses or fax numbers, call your newspaper, they have this info or watch the Herald as they do print this information also. Action speaks louder than words.
I agree with the OYM caller who said that this country was still deeply racist and not ready for a black president. If you look at the exit poles for Obama and Clinton they show that 90 percent of the blacks vote for the black guy and 90 percent of whites vote for the white woman. That shows that this country is still deeply racist. It proves the caller’s point.
I saw a message in OYM about Transportation Express. You’re better off to take the bus. It’s only a dollar. If I were you, I wouldn’t bother with Transportation Express.
To the person or persons who stole the two dozen doughnuts from my car parked in the Sears parking lot, I hope you choke on them. They were purchased for some elderly people who cannot go to the store like you or I can. I learned a big lesson. Keep your doors locked in Sierra Vista. There are some crooks around.
George Orwell wrote a very interesting little book called “Animal Farm.” It’s about a society of pigs who did a farm job. At the end he said, “All pigs are created equal, but some are more equal than others.” And that sure is true today.
