The Cochise College Music Department and Cultural Events Office present two concerts of fun, occasionally out-of-control music for voices from the Renaissance on April 19 and May 3.
“My Thinge Is My Owne: A Raucous Renaissance with Musica Sonora” features the Tucson-based group Musica Sonora with the Cochise College Douglas Choir Musica Sin Fronteras. Themes of the April 19 performance, to kick off at 7 p.m. at Kino Hall, 800 Taylor Drive, Sierra Vista, include springtime, love, Claret, love, singing and dancing, barnyard animals, unrequited love, more love and the ever-popular modern madrigal “My Bonnie Lass She Smelleth” by the composer known as P.D.Q. Bach. Composers from England, France, Italy and Germany represent the cultural diversity of popular song of the day, and a modern piece is included as well.
The performance is directed by Christina Jarvis and Lori Keyne.
The newly formed Cochise College Chamber Choir presents “Elisabethan Idol” at 3 p.m. May 3, also at Kino Hall. Focusing on English madrigals and poetry from the age of Elizabeth I, with some Italian extras, topics include love, political maneuvering, birds, more love, nymphs and shepherds, and, of course, unrequited love. Hearing these pieces in the acoustically vibrant Kino Hall will make this an unforgettable musical experience.
