Paul Joseph Salais, 41, beloved son, brother, husband and uncle passed away at University Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz., on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, after losing a long battle with his heart. Paul was born April 5, 1966, in Douglas, Ariz., and enlisted in the U. S. Navy after graduating from Bisbee High School in in 1984.

Paul served his country as electronics specialist and instructor in the U.S. Navy and officially retired on July 31, 2004, after moving back to the area with his family to finish off his naval career here at Fort Huachuca, Ariz. After retiring from the Navy, Paul worked for a short time for Signal Solutions before going to work for FCBS/General Dynamics.


Paul enjoyed hunting and was a member of the NRA and National Wildlife Federation. He also enjoyed being outdoors, spending time playing with their nine beautiful cats, landscaping, riding his bike, running, shooting, spending time with family and never tired of learning new things.

Paul is survived by his wife of 18 years, Sandra L. Salaiz of Hereford, Ariz.; stepsons, Mario Carrillo and Daniel Arena; mother, Kitty and stepfather, Thomas Owen of Hereford; father, Pablo and stepmothe,r Cruz Salaiz of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; sisters, Stephanie Hamm of Palominas, Ariz., Raquel (Gerald) Elliott of Sierra Vista and Mary Cruz (Darren) Stensby of Sierra Vista; brother, David T. Owen of Tucson; uncles and aunts, Roy (Pat) Applegate of Iowa, Carl (Ellen) Applegate of California, Conrado (Tere) Salaiz, Frank (Linda) Salaiz, Jesse Salaiz, Adrian (Pat) Salaiz of Sierra Vista, Andy Salaiz and Joe (Esperanza) Salaiz of Tucson and Christina Salaiz of Sierra Vista; nieces and nephews, Tiffany Hamm of Palominas, Kittye and Lena Roman of Sierra Vista, Elisa, Daniella and Darren Stensby of Sierra Vista, Daniel and Amanda Elliott of Sierra Vista; great-nephew, Tyler Hamm of Palominas; and grandmother, Dolores Salaiz. His grandfathers Francisco Salaiz of Sierra Vista, Halbert Applegate of Bisbee, and grandmother, Gladys Applegate of Bisbee preceded him in death.

Paul touched the lives of many of the people he met throughout his life. He will not only be missed by his family and close friends, but also by numerous coworkers from Fort Huachuca’s NETCOM.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jensen’s Sierra Vista Mortuary.
