Bosley smokes Tucson Raceway Park on first night out

TUCSON — Getting The Boz back on the track Saturday at Tucson Raceway Park was a joint effort by family, the local NAPA store and F.A.S.T.

Racing’s A.J. Davis of Tucson.

Each contributed to his return in a major way. Davis took care of his tires and fuel for the night.

“If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t have been able to race,” Sierra Vista’s David Bosley said of Davis.

While celebrating the Sport Compact main event victory, oil on the headers of David Bosley’s Ford Mustang ignited causing flames to shoot out from underneath the hood. The incident did not damage the engine. Bosley also won the division’s heat race earlier in the day. (Kristi O’Brien-Herald/Review)

After driving his No. 41 Sport Compact to victory in the heat race, everyone’s efforts were beginning to pay off.

From a fifth-place starting position for the 15-lap feature race, Bosley’s strategy was to stick to back-to-back winner Joshua Davis’ bumper.

On the start, Joshua Davis of Tucson quickly began maneuvering his way up the field with Bosley right

behind.

The plan ended when Bosley took the lead from Davis — all on the first lap.

Bosley began pulling away from the field, and by the fifth lap, he had opened up a quarter-lap lead on Karen Heyse of Tucson in second.

With five to go, Heyse began closing in on Bosley but the Sierra Vista driver maintained his position for his first feature win of the 2008 season.

Hereford’s Joe Paladenic was off to a great start in the Late Model division winning the trophy dash and his heat race.

In the 10th-place starting position, Paladenic had his work cut out for him in the main event. Victor Pfluger of San Diego, who started outside front row, took the early lead from Dave Larson of Tucson. By the 10th lap, Paladenic had made his way to the sixth position.

However, Mesa’s Scott Reuschenberg was on his tail.

On the 13th lap of the race, Reuschenberg headed to the outside line and the two raced side by side until lap 15, when Paladenic fell to seventh.

On the 17th lap, Paladenic took sixth back passing

Larson.

With five to go, Paladenic made it on the board passing Ned Champine of Tucson for fifth. He held onto this position for the remainder of the race.

Pfluger dominated the race for his first win of the season.

In other main event racing, Tom Mikla of Gilbert drove his “Lightning McQueen” car to victory lane in the Factory Stock

division.

Tucson’s Rick Butler took the win in the TRP Bomber division, and Karl Griggs of Tucson won the Bomber

Lite feature race after passing Mike Schaffer of Tucson on the final lap.

Racing resumes Saturday with the Speedtruck 100, Factory Stocks, Sports Compacts and Modifieds.
