Aug. 10, 1923 - Feb. 23, 2008

Robert Eugene Pinneo is the loved husband of Betty Jane (Willard) of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; father of Celeste E. (David) Daugherty of Sierra Vista, Richard L. (Elizabeth) Pinneo of South Carolina, and Valerie Bubica of Texas; and grandfather of John R. Baird of Phoenix, Ariz., Heather Baird of Sierra Vista, and Jason Bubica and David Bubica of Illinois; and two great-grandsons, who all take comfort in knowing that he is in heaven walking with the Lord.

Mr. Pinneo was born on Aug. 10, 1923, in Joliet, Ill. His parents, Burt A. Pinneo and Esther (Brockway), and two sisters, Doris Pinneo and Norma Brulc, preceded him in passing.

At 19 years of age, he served his country by joining the U.S. Army Air Forces. His B-17 was forced down in Germany, where he and his crew were captured. He was on the death march between the Russian and American lines. Most of this POW camp perished before the survivors were liberated in 1944.

After his marriage and for most of his life, Mr. Pinneo was an active member of the First Assembly of God Church in Joliet, Ill. He was a west side commissioner for the Boy Scouts, teaching Indian history, and designing and constructing a tepee that could sleep 12 men. This tent was displayed at many of the Scout jamborees.

In 1984, he retired from Commonwealth Edison after faithful employment for 34 years.

His favorite hobby was constructing and flying remote control aircraft. After moving to Sierra Vista in 1992, he joined a local flying club.

When able, Mr. Pinneo attended Calvary Chapel and a local support chapter of former POWs.

His family celebrated his life on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, the day after his passing in the family home. We love and miss him, but know we’ll see him again.
