BISBEE — As the fourth annual Bisbee Yoga Expo gets under way this weekend, some new classes have been added to the three-day event that begins Friday.
Organizer Marcia Galleher is excited about the Expo that will feature 25 instructors and bring in more than 100 visitors to the Bisbee area for a relaxing weekend.
One of those new classes is a free event for children 3 to 8 years old conducted by Leisa Owens and will be held in the Copper Queen Library on Main Street in Old Bisbee.
Owens said the class is open to children and their parents. Called “A Day In The Life Of A Tiger,” the class celebrates a tiger’s story from a child’s view through Kundalini yoga, breath, movement, dance and song.

Owens, who resides in Darmstadt, Germany, where she teaches children’s yoga to pre-schoolers and kindergartners, has been a student of Hatha Yoga for the past 12 years and has been a general and special education teacher for 14 years.
Another new instructor is Guy Atchley, from Tucson, who will show students and practitioners the Power of the Toes, Ten Little Things That Can Improve Your Yoga Practice. He says on the Expo Web site, “If you have ever experienced knee problems, hyper-extension of knees and legs, or over-stretched your Achilles tendon during practice, the lack of attention to your toes could be the reason. You’ll see how the toes activate certain muscles in the legs to keep the knees in line ... ”
According to the Expo Web site, some of the other yoga instructors include:
• Sanjay Manchanda of Tucson who will offer “Wake Up and Roar, the experience of self-reflection.”
• Jade Twilite Beall of Tucson offering West African Yoga Dance, a class for all skill levels.
• Tom Beall Tucson will hold a class called “Yin Yang Yoga,” a Taoist approach to yoga that focuses on five-minute postures and flowing continuous movement that stretches and strengthens muscles, improve coordination and balance and increase energy.
• Matt and Kate Myers of Phoenix are offering classes in “YogaBeat!,” the ultimate fitness practice.
• Juliet Wing of Payson is holding a “Power Yoga” class that is a high energy workout that ties together dynamic breathing and and body heat through a series of postures from Ashtanga. This class is for beginners as well as advanced yoga practitioners.
• Marnie Mills of Bisbee will offer a class on restorative yoga through crystal vibrations, accompanied by Michael Cummings and Annette Weems, who are sound healers. For more information, visit bisbeeyogaexpo.com or call Marcia Galleher at (520) 432-3726 or toll free at (888) 271-4505.
Free the Tiger
“I dreamed I was flying in circles above the students in my dream class.
They waved at me and I realized I was dreaming.
I flew down, landed and told them that we were all dreaming.
I saw the Club Kilimanjaro nearby and we all walked over to it and entered.
In the ballroom there were ropes stretched the length of the hall.
Hanging over the ropes were Tibetan rugs.
We noticed a piece of paper folded on top of one of the rugs.
Trelane, a dream student, climbed up and got the paper.
‘What does it say?’ we all asked.
It says, ‘FREE THE TIGER,’ he responded.”
