Harlem Globetrotters coming to Buena Monday

The world famous Harlem Globetrotters are bringing their “Magic as Ever” world tour to Sierra Vista on Monday.

Streetball exhibition Feb. 9 on post

The Sports and Fitness Division of MWR is looking for active duty soldiers who are interested in becoming part of a streetball basketball team that will play the El Paso “Nothing But Net” streetball team in an exhibition game. The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Feb. 9 at Barnes Field House.

SV Scorpions Freestyle Wrestling sign ups

The Sierra Vista Scorpions Freestyle Wrestling Club will be at Big 5 Sports from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and on Jan. 12 to register wrestlers and answer any questions.

The club is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 18.

The cost is $30 for the USA Wrestling card fee and $30 for the club fee.  Practices begin Jan. 16 at Buena High School and the tournament season is from mid-February to the middle of May.

Tournaments are held on Saturdays in the Tucson and Phoenix area. Wrestling shoes are required.

San Pedro Flycasters monthly meeting

San Pedro Flycasters members John Marvin and John Yates will present a Power Point program on fly fishing in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado at the club’s meeting.

The club holds its monthly meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 6:15 p.m. at the Fry Fire Station No. 3 on Yaqui Street.

Marvin and Yates recently fished for rainbow and brown trout in lakes and rivers of those two states.  

The meeting will also feature a fly tying lesson, education segment and raffle.

Anyone interested in fly fishing or learning the sport is welcome.

Campstone Little League meeting Wednesday

Campstone Little League of Huachuca City will have its first meeting to kick off the 2008 season at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Taco Shop.

All members need to attend as well as anyone interested in helping this year. The organization will be selling tickets for the celebrity baseball game sponsored by the Diamondbacks in Febuary. More information about the league can be found online at huachucacitylittleleague.com.

Bench press and deadlift meet at Cold Iron Gym

At 11 a.m. on Saturday at the Cold Iron Gym in Tombstone, there will be a U.S. Powerlifting Federation bench press and deadlift competition.

There will be a free drawing for the lifters with two cash prizes.

One cash prize is $300.

Hot Flashes looking for players

The Hot Flashes Senior Women Softball Team is looking for players.  

The team is a slow pitch softball traveling tournament team. If you are an interested female that will be at least 50 years old in 2008.

SVLL monthly board meetings

The Sierra Vista Little League will hold its monthly board meetings the first Monday of every month from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Apache Middle School

Library.

Hot Shots to hold fund-raiser

The Huachuca Hot Shots will be conducting a fundraising shoot at the Fort Huachuca Sportsman’s Center  from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  on Jan. 19.

The shoot will be five stand sporting clays shoot.  There will be 25, 50 and 100 target events offered. The Huachuca Hot Shots is the local Scholastic Clay Target Program youth group.  

It is made up of young athletes fourth through 12th grades. This shoot may also improve your shotgun hunting skills while having fun. For more information, call Steve Reinhart, 378-3635 or Rene Dube, 378 6864.

GHMGC to host Winter Open Sunday

The Greater Huachuca Men’s Golf Club (GHMGC) is hosting the Winter Open on Sunday at Mountain View Golf Course on Fort Huachuca. 

This is a stroke play tournament open to anyone with an established handicap.
