Aug. 4, 1925 - Dec. 20, 2007

Edward Joseph “Ed” Madden, 82, of Sierra Vista, Ariz., peacefully entered into eternal rest on Dec. 20, 2007, at a local assisted living center.

Born on Aug. 4, 1925, as the only child of Edward and Eva Madden, Ed was born and raised in Yonkers, N.Y. He attended Sacred Heart elementary school and graduated from Gorton High School.

He served in the U.S. Army as a medic during World War II. His medical unit received a commendation for their work at Iwo Jima and they assisted at several other Pacific battle sites. He was discharged in 1946, returning home to work at various jobs in New York City and White Plains, N.Y. In 1961 he began a 26-year career as an accounting clerk at the U.S. Postal Service.

Ed married his first wife, Evelyn, on May 27, 1967, in Toronto, Canada. After retiring in 1987, they moved to Douglas, Ariz. After her passing, Ed settled in Sierra Vista in May 1997.

He was active in the American Legion and VFW Chapters in both New York and Arizona. Ed loved animals and traveling, taking many cruises and other trips around the United States, Canada and the Caribbean. Ed especially enjoyed movies from the silver screen era, and has more than 150 titles in his personal collection.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia, of Sierra Vista, whom he married in Tombstone, Ariz., on Oct. 27, 2000. Other survivors include Virginia’s children, Larry (Donna) Witt of Overland Park, Kan., Sharon (David) Seekins of Queen Creek, Ariz.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his relatives and friends in New York and the surrounding area.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Evelyn; and a companion, Connie Cordell.

The family plans a columbarium service at the Sierra Vista United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 31, 2007. The family requests any memorial donations be directed to the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, Hospice Casa de la Paz.

" Ed, we were so priviledged to know you, and you will be missed. We enjoyed our visit two summers ago with you and Grandma Virginia, and will always remember the fun time we had (Andrew still talks about meeting Chip!). God Bless. "
