Edward C. Winderl Sr.

Edward C. Winderl Sr., 85, beloved son of Michael Winderl and Theresa Erhart Lauffer, passed into the Kingdom of God in Sierra Vista, Ariz. Mr. Winderl grew up in Buffalo, N.Y., with his uncle and aunt, Bill and Mary Denfund.

Mr. Winderl was a Seabee in the U.S. Navy during World War II. After living a year in Philadelphia, Pa., learning the trade of piano tuning, he returned to Buffalo and worked for Bel-Aircraft in Wheatfield, N.Y. In 1954, he moved his family to Niobe, N.Y., and worked for Crescent Tool.

Mr. Winderl was a member of Our Lady of Snows Roman Catholic Church, Panama, N.Y., and Trinity Orthodox Lutheran Church in Sierra Vista, Ariz. He also was a member of the Lakewood American Legion, Lakewood Rod and Gun, and the Corry VFW.


He was preceded in death by his parents; aunt and uncle; a sister, Joyce Battaglia; and his wife, Marian (March 17, 1995).

Mr. Winderl married the former Marian Ottaway of Corry, Pa., on May 3, 1946.

He is survived by his daughters, Lynda (Gerald) Dorrion of Tiona, Pa.; Susan Short of Niobe, N.Y.; Joan (Royal) Lohnes of Sinclairville, N.Y.; Mary (Ibrahim) Abulgubein of Indianapolis, Ind.; and two sons, James (Marian) of Grahamsville, N.Y., and Edward Jr. (Elaine) of Niobe, N.Y. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Jean (John) Zalik of Bear Lake, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Winderl and his wife, Marilyn Seekins for the past 12 years, have resided in Arizona and Niobe, N.Y. Children of Marilyn, David (Sharon) Seekins, and Cheryl (Dennis) Nickels and their children, Brian, Brent, Dale (and three grandchildren), had become part of his extended family and very supportive throughout his brief illness.

Memorial services will be held in Sierra Vista at Trinity Orthodox Lutheran Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007, and in Panama, N.Y. at the convenience of his family.

The family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society, the Chautauqua Humane Society or an organization of one’s choice.
