It’s time to put pride back in ‘Made in U.S.A.’

To the Editor:

I’m not one to write a letter to the newspaper. I’m not good at words. But it has gotten to a point where it has gone too far, and it makes me very angry, mad and upset. So, I am writing this. I feel it has to be said.

Why are we, the U.S.A., buying from China, except for the price? China is trying to take over the U.S. without firing a shot. They are trying to break into our country’s computer systems of government, military, financial and commercial.

They are trying to get to our kids through their toys, poisoning them through lead in the paint and many other safety hazards, and now, I hear the kids beads, if swallowed, could turn into a drug, similar to the date-rape drug.

Why are we letting them do this to us for just a few dollars. It isn’t worth it. Our country’s future is in our kids, and China knows this.

Remember the problem with dog food? How many pets have died? There have been hundreds of thousands of recalls on tires from China. How many other recalls and other safety situations haven’t we heard about?

We are using pipe made in China in the U.S.-Mexico border fence while U.S. pipe companies are closing. Oh, don’t forget about the toxic liquid found in baby pacifiers.

We need to get our country back to where it was — manufacturing the goods and products we need.

I don’t mind paying more for “Made in U.S.A.” products. In fact, I look for them. There are still some available. Our workers need to have more pride in their jobs and not go to work just for the paycheck, but to be working for the good of our country.

Don’t buy China. Put pride back in “Made in U.S.A.”

At this time, several cities around the country are on a campaign not to buy Chinese for future city equipment.

Last night, my wife and I went out looking for another artificial Christmas tree and went into one of our finer department stores. We saw several nice trees there. After checking, I come to find out one of the ones we were looking at was not UL approved. Guess what? It was made in China. Buyer beware.

The U.S. market is flooded by goods made in China. What has happened to the us in “Made in the U.S.A.”

Now the Chinese won’t let our ships into Hong Kong port. Are they afraid we might see something? What are they trying to hide? Maybe we should keep all their ships out of our ports. Good idea.

Don’t buy China. Put pride back in “Made in the U.S.A.”

I feel better. I just needed to get this out. Enough said. No. Not enough said.

" Atta Boy, Charles! Thanks for saying what we have been thinking. "

More "Made in the USA" please! wrote on Dec 24, 2007 8:08 AM:

" I always try to buy goods and produce made/grown in the USA and I'm willing to pay premium prices for them. I was in fry's the other day looking for tomatoes...they had many verities in several different sections, even the organic section. They all came from Mexico. I know there are local, year-round producers, like EuroFarms in Wilcox, so why can't we get more local/USA grown stuff? This goes for other goods, too. (BTW, Mexico doesn't grow organic, they have no regulations. 'Organic' to them means they may not spray, but they still use untreated sewage for watering.) "

" I, too, have been trying to buy "Made in America," but it's really difficult. I don't mind paying more for things that Americans make. And yes, Wal-Mart USED to pride itself on selling goods made in the USA. I don't step foot in there unless I absolutely have to now. If Americans refused to buy goods made in China as much as possible, we could force manufacturers to bring the jobs back. Thanks for a great letter, Charles! "

" Didn't Wal-Mart use to have a huge banner at one time say something to the effect of, "Made in USA", hanging near the front doors? This may have been when Sam Walton, the founder, was still alive, back about 1992. "

" Just stay out of WALMART, they have driven more business to China than anyone else. It's really hard to tell who is who anymore, Ford is have ing cars assembled by Hyundai in NORTH KOREA. "

" I too will buy 'MADE WITHPRIDE IN THE U.S.A." and spend extra time looking for such products and I do NOT mind having to pay a bit more to employ my neighbors and friends in jobs that allow them to support themselves and their families. I agree with JB, Charles you write one heck of a ltter, keep it up, buy American and while we're at it, let's break the monopoly the two party sytem has and vote for third party candidates in stead of voting against someone! We are a GREAT Nation and will remain so. "

JB wrote on Dec 21, 2007 8:42 AM:

" Charles, Don't say you don't write well. That's a heck of a letter and all too true. We also have been TRYING to buy American and it is hard. We don't mind paying more if we can get the quality and pride back into our country. Let's go America, buy USA. "
