TUCSON — The Buena Colt wrestling team, winning 13-of-14 matches, defeated Sahuaro 77-6 Wednesday evening to run their season record to 4-0.

“We did very well tonight and wrestled with great intensity,” Buena Coach Dan Southard said. “We had a lot of improvement from several of our wrestlers since last week’s opener.”

Starting at 119 pounds, Buena won 12 straight bouts in jumping out to a 71-0 lead before losing the 103-pound bout by a fall.

“They (Sahuaro) had  nearly a full team,” Southard said. “They only gave us two forfeits, Rene Miramontes at 119 and Robert Ellis at heavyweight. “

After Miramontes’ forfeit, Brent Madden started a pinning trend with a fall over Trent Streeter in 3:38 at 125 pounds, Ian Beauregard followed with a pin over Tyler Streeter at 130 pounds in 1:45 and freshman Brice Madden pinned Ed Fiscke at 135 pounds in 2:38.

Jimmy Byrd came through with a pin of Robert Brizal at the 140-pound weight class in 1:28 and Ryan Hegedus stopped Art Grimer in 1:26 at 145 pounds, giving Buena a 36-0 lead.

Emilio Gonzales, in his first bout of the season, won a technical fall (15-0) over his opponent at 152 pounds.

Carl Larimer started another Colt pinning streak, winning over wrestler Mike Laire in 35 seconds at 160 pounds.

Bryan Sieler followed with a pin of Antonio Blondeau in 1:10 at 171 pounds and Kevin Treftz pinned Rob Day in 1:08 at 189 pounds.

Anthony Kirkpatrick made it four in a row with a pin of Robert Holder in 50 seconds at 215 pounds.

After Ellis’ forfeit win at heavyweight, the match reverted down to the 103-pound weight class where Kyle Rae lost by a fall to Spencer Blondeau in 56 seconds.

Marcus Williams ended the contest with a pin over Josh Appel in 21 seconds.

The Buena junior varsity team defeated the Sahuaro JVs, 30-24.

Buena will travel on Wednesday to Tucson for a quadrangular match with Douglas, Catalina and Tucson High at Tucson High, before leaving for their first tournament of the season, the Las Cruces Invitational on Dec. 7-8 in New Mexico.
